Boxborough Historical Society

Boxborough Historical Society The Society preserves Boxborough's history by hosting programs and maintaining a collection in the regularly-opened Town Museum.

The Boxborough Historical Society was founded in 1961 by a group of residents interested in preserving Boxborough's history and passing it along to the next generation. Working together with the Historical Commission and other Town groups, The Historical Society is dedicated to the recording of local history, the identification and preservation of historical sites, the cataloging and collection of

historical documents and artifacts, and presenting information to the public on Boxborough's history. The Boxborough Historical Society provides a wide variety of programs for the community. Many speakers are residents of the town and are willing to share their wealth of information. Under a 2005 agreement with the Board of Selectmen, the Town building located at 575 Middle Road has been used as a historical museum and archive of town historical artifacts, including written historical material that is available for persons to conduct research. The Boxborough Historical Society runs the museum programs, completing exhibits and accepting and preserving private collection donations. The Society maintains its collection at the Museum and normally opens it to the public on the second Sunday of each month from 2 until 4PM or by special arrangement. Unlike the Historical Commission, which is a Town Committee created under State mandate, limited by State regulations, and filled by appointments by the Selectmen, the Historical Society is a private, non-profit group of volunteers which elects its officers and can accept artifacts and tax deductible contributions. All interested persons are invited to visit our museum and to become members of the Society.
