The Bridge to Recovery

The Bridge to Recovery We are a transformational residential program that specializes in healing individuals from the core.

Our approach is two-fold and helps clients simultaneously work on their issues from the outside in and the inside out. From the outside, clients will address their current addictions and other compulsive behavior patterns. These are addressed through abstinence, participation in 12-Step communities and doing step work. At the same time, clients will work from the inside out to effectively address

their historical issues and the pain and shame associated with them. This work is done through a variety of evidence based experiential therapeutic modalities including group therapy, equine assisted therapy, psychodrama, personal narrative work and inner child affective therapy.

Setting boundaries is one thing. Believing we are worthy of having them respected is another.

Family-of-origin trauma can teach us to keep the peace, tolerate hurtful behavior, or put others’ needs before our own. Healing helps us recognize our worth so we can set boundaries without guilt and, most importantly, follow through when they aren’t respected.

Boundaries become stronger when they are rooted in healing.

You have to acknowledge the needs weren't met. Sometimes we minimize the trauma from our family of origin, but that can leave us stuck in the same cycles and let the impact continue to resonate in our lives. Through honestly acknowledging what happened we can begin to process it. And only through processing it can we find a path to freedom.

So often family of origin trauma is not malicious, it just happened. However, regardless of intent it leaves a resonating impact in my life that influences interactions long after it took place. Awareness, acknowledgement, and intentional work allows me to gain power in the effect it has on me so I am better able to walk into situations with tools to face it.

Family of Origin trauma occurs in our primary environment when we are young, but can leave a lasting echo throughout the rest of our lives. If not addressed it can shape the way we interact within relationships, work, and every aspect of our lives. When we intentionally work to move through the wounding we can find a life beyond the survival pattern.

When our bodies respond to trauma we get stuck viewing today's events through the lens of yesterday's trauma. Healing is about processing the trauma and beginning to view the world as it is, not as it was.
