🔊 Sometimes, adaptation sounds like a whisper. 💙🐴

If you watch this video, you might notice something unusual…

We're celebrating a BIG moment for one of our riders, but we're doing it quietly.

There aren't loud cheers or big celebrations.

Instead, you'll hear soft, excited voices encouraging her.

Why?

Because we've learned her.

She's non-verbal and extremely sensitive to sound. When things become overwhelming, she may cover her ears or become overwhelmed enough to hurt herself.

So we adapt.

We lower our voices.
We slow things down.
We give her space.
We watch her cues.
We celebrate without overwhelming her.

And that quiet encouragement you hear?

That's what inclusion can sound like. ❤️

Adaptive riding isn't just about adaptive equipment or changing the way someone sits on a horse.

Sometimes it's changing the environment.

Sometimes it's changing the way we communicate.

Sometimes it's knowing when to celebrate loudly…

…and when a soft, “You did it. Good job,” means so much more. 🥹

Our riders teach us that communication doesn't always happen through words.

Sometimes it's two taps that tell a horse to walk.

Sometimes it's a smile.

Sometimes it's a look.

Sometimes it's the smallest movement that tells us, “I'm ready.”

And our job isn't to make every rider fit into the way we communicate.

Our job is to learn how THEY communicate. 💙

That's adaptive riding.

That's meeting someone where they are.

And that's where some pretty incredible moments happen. 🐴✨

Spesh is amazing.

Spesh is amazing.

A little Spesh update because life is FULL right now. 🥹❤️

Today, I completed Day 1 of teaching on the Hill—getting to pour into future educators while continuing to grow Spesh alongside it.

💛 We’ve officially sold 18 “You Can Never Have Too Many Buddies” tees to help raise money for Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky! They’re still available, and $5 from every tee goes directly to DSSKY.

💬 I also have a couple of Sesh with Spesh sessions scheduled, and I’m so proud to provide parents with clarity as they begin a new school year with their child’s team. Sometimes you just need someone to help you understand the process, organize your thoughts, and figure out what questions to ask.

I also created the Spesh Parent Workbook as another way to help families feel more prepared and organized as they navigate special education.

🫶 The Bracelet Bar is growing, too! I’ve had interest from more teachers, which means we’ll be bringing conversations about friendship, inclusion, and belonging into more classrooms over the next few weeks.

⚾️ AND this weekend, I get to do something extra special—I’ll be throwing out the first pitch at SOKY Bambino Buddy League’s first game of the season!

This is such a busy, full, and rewarding season of life. Sometimes I have to stop and look at all the different places Spesh is showing up—on the Hill, alongside parents, inside classrooms, through fundraising, and out in our community.

Thank you for buying the shirts, sharing the posts, inviting me into your classrooms, trusting me with your questions, and continuing to support Spesh. ❤️

If you’re wondering what Spesh could do for your family, classroom, school, organization, or community, please reach out. I’d love to tell you more.

There’s a lot happening—and I’m so grateful for all of it. 🥹

🎓❤️ Goodbyes, Hellos & Welcome Backs! 🐴

As summer comes to an end, we’re saying “see you later” to some pretty special college students who spent part of their summer with us at New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding. We’re going to miss seeing you around the barn, but we’re excited to watch you head back to school and take on another year! ❤️

And with a new semester beginning, we’re excited to welcome our new and returning WKU students to NBTR! 🏫🐴

Our college students bring so much energy, compassion, and willingness to learn to our program. Whether you’re returning to the barn or walking through our doors for the very first time, we’re so glad you’re here!

Here’s to a great semester, new friendships, lots of learning…and, of course, plenty of horse hair! 🐴❤️

Welcome back, Hilltoppers! ❤️🤍

💙💛 LOOK WHAT’S FLYING AT NBTR! 💛💙

A very special thank you to Ben and his wife for the wonderful gift of our New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding flag!

From holding it for the first time to seeing it proudly flying at NBTR, this gift means so much to us. 💙

Our flag represents our participants, horses, volunteers, families, and everyone who has helped make New Beginnings the special place it is.

Thank you both for thinking of NBTR and giving us another way to proudly share who we are and what we believe in:

🐴 All About Abilities! 💛💙

We absolutely LOVE seeing the NBTR flag flying high!

We've had a tough July & August. Lessons have been on pause due to extreme heat but sadly the show must go on, with or without lessons.

Being a non-profit is hard.

All the horses still eat twice a day, even when there's no lessons. They still need their hooves trimmed & fresh water. They still need their fly spray. All these are needs that they rely on us to meet.

We've got our fundraising hats on & plan to launch some fun ways to help & support us but if you'd like to help us, we'd really appreciate the donations at this time.
