Friends, there are only 9 spots left for the annual Minding My Math Business summer program! Register a student in grades 6-12, at no cost, today.

Once again, we are pleased to help encourage youth from all over the area to participate in this amazing program that mixes math with mindfulness. Faculty from WKU Mathematics, WKU Department of Counseling and Student Affairs, and the Department of Finance have built a curriculum that this year will feature a showcase of math in motion, math in space, and much more.

Learn more about the summer program and sign up at https://www.wku.edu/math/mmmb/.

Minding My Math Business is sponsored by the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, Ogden College of Science and Engineering, and the Gordon Ford College of Business.

Congratulations Mr. Roberto Carlos Rivas, winner of our first Danny Carothers Community Driven Award, presented during the Ties for Change Benefit Gala.

Coach Carlos Rivas has spent the past five years coaching youth soccer with SKY Soccer Club, local school programs, and most recently Bowling Green Football Club. But to his players, he is more than a coach β€” he is a mentor.

On the field, he builds skill, discipline, and confidence. Off the field, he builds character. Year after year, his players grow stronger, not just as athletes, but as leaders and scholars.

His support doesn’t end when the whistle blows. He makes sure no child is left out, helping with rides to practice, covering meals, assisting with travel, and creating opportunities for experiences they might not otherwise have. He supports families facing language barriers, takes time to explain processes, and ensures parents feel included and informed.

Coach Carlos leads quietly, often giving his time and personal resources without recognition. He shows young people what kindness, responsibility, and consistency look like in action.

He doesn’t just coach the game β€” he uses it to bring people together and strengthen community ties.

Congratulations!
