World Council for Gifted and Talented Children and Western Kentucky University Renew Headquarters Agreement

The World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC®) and Western Kentucky University have renewed an agreement for the WCGTC Headquarters to be hosted at WKU through December 31, 2030.

The WCGTC has been headquartered at WKU in Bowling Green, KY, since January 1, 2011.

Prof Anies Al-Hroub, WCGTC President, said: “This renewed agreement with WKU reflects a strong, strategic partnership grounded in shared values and a long-term vision to advance gifted and talented education globally. This renewed commitment provides institutional stability for the WCGTC, enabling us to plan, innovate, and expand our international impact with confidence.

Dr. Tyler Clark, WCGTC Executive Administrator and Assistant Director of Operations at The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU, commented: “WKU has long been a leader in gifted education, and the extended agreement to maintain Headquarters at WKU further positions us for international collaborations and demonstrates our commitment to serving gifted and talented students around the world.”

🎓 Is online learning just as effective as in-person for gifted students?

A new study published in Gifted and Talented International tackles the post-COVID debate regarding talent development summer programs. Researchers from Purdue University analyzed perceptions from 240 gifted students and found that classroom quality and student outcomes remained similar regardless of whether instruction was online or in-person.

The authors concluded, "Our findings highlight the importance of rethinking our preconceptions about online learning and suggest the appearance of a post-COVID-19 generation of learners who seem more welcoming to online learning modes of instruction than before..." 🌍💻

At the 2025 World Conference of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC), held July 29–August 2 in Braga, Portugal, the editorial team of Gifted and Talented International (GTI) came together to share the journal’s progress and vision.

It was wonderful to see our Co-Editors in Chief, Dr. Alex Vuyk, Dr. Kadir Bahar, and Dr. Sheyla Blumen, alongside our Associate Editors, Dr. María Paz Gómez-Arízaga and Dr. Šule Guçyeter.

During the General Members Meeting, Dr. Kadir Bahar presented the Editors’ Report, highlighting the advances made in GTI and reaffirming our commitment to publishing high-quality, impactful research in gifted education, talent development, and creativity.

*A mixed-methods study exploring the lives of 120 gifted LGBTQ+ adolescents in Ireland

* Gifted programs fostered greater identity affirmation than schools, with 95% of participants citing peer support.
