This morning, Alvaton units were dispatched to multiple vehicle accidents around the 19mm of I65, both northbound and southbound. Following standard protocols, apparatus were positioned to block the accidents for the safety of crews working, cones were placed, and additional apparatus were positioned to block or provide advanced warning of the scene ahead. A total of 7 apparatus responded to these incidents.

With all this, firefighters still had several close calls with vehicles running over cones, sliding to
a stop, or almost hitting apparatus or firefighters. It is imperative that the traveling public understand that it is state law to slow down and/or move over when approaching stopped emergency vehicles. Furthermore, when the roads are wet, rain is falling, or visibility is low, vehicles should be driving at a slower speed and higher awareness level. While everyone may have somewhere to be, our firefighters have to make it home when the call is over.

🚨Cat Rescue 🐈‍⬛

Yesterday evening, Alvaton units were dispatched to assist homeowners with getting their cat out of a tree. The cat was stuck approximately 50ft up, and had been there for the last 48 hours. E21 and Q24 responded, and the ladder on Q24 was used to gain access to the part of the tree where the cat was. An Alvaton firefighter was able to use rope equipment to safely make access to the cat, get it inside its carrying case, and safely hoist it down to the ground where it was reunited with its owners. We are happy to serve our community in whatever way we are called to, and are happy that ‘Socks’ is reunited with its family.

Yesterday evening, Alvaton and Plano units were dispatched to a reported grass fire on I65 SB. Upon arrival, units located a small grass fire at the 17/8mm, and another at the 16mm that were quickly extinguished, preventing further spread. E23 and S23 responded.

While enroute back to the station, units drove up on a nearly fully engulfed semi trailer fire at the 21mm of I65 NB, prior to the call being dispatched. Additional resources were requested, and the fire was extinguished using multiple hoselines and water supply from multiple large capacity tankers. During extinguishment and clean up operations, multiple lanes of I65 were shut down to protect personnel on scene. We were assisted on scene by Plano and Woodburn Fire Departments, WC Emergency Management, KSP, and Walkers Towing. E23, T23, S23, and Q24 responded.
