The Society for the Future of Higher Education Since 1922, the Society for Values in Higher Education has maintained its commitment to preserving ethical values in institutions of higher education.

The Society for the Future of Higher Education is an organization of higher ed faculty and others who care deeply about leading higher education to a more just and equitable future. In 2021, we changed our name to more accurately represent our growing focus on programs and projects to ensure a more equitable and just future for higher education.

Join us at our conference at La Roche this July. Our featured speaker on Friday, July 17th at 7:00pm will be Dr. David E. Kirkland, Ph.D. His presentation is titled
“The Courage to Teach the Future: Higher Education, Democracy, and the Work of Human Possibility”

David E. Kirkland, Ph.D., is the founder and CEO of forwardED, a national education and equity organization dedicated to transforming learning environments through research, innovation, and human-centered design.

He previously served as Executive Director of the NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools and as Vice Dean for Equity, Belonging, and Community Action at New York University. A nationally renowned scholar, educator, and author, Dr. Kirkland’s work focuses on literacy, cultural responsiveness, equity, human development, and the future of education. He has advised school districts, universities, foundations, and organizations across the country on issues related to justice, leadership, and transformative learning. His writing and speaking explore the intersections of education, democracy, identity, and liberation, challenging institutions to imagine more loving, rigorous, and humanizing possibilities for teaching and learning.
