Tucker is a 2-year-old Shepherd mix with the most wonderfully unique face we've seen. But once you meet him, you’ll quickly realize his looks are only part of the charm, because this boy has a heart of gold!

Tucker is incredibly sweet, housebroken, and crate-trained. He gets along wonderfully with everyone and every pup! He has the kind of calm, patient personality that makes him an absolute joy to be around.

He is smart, attentive, patient, and has that special kind of temperament that makes you think, “This dog was made to be somebody’s best friend.”

BIG DOG SPOTLIGHT: Meet Luna! Sponsored by Freedom Contracting. 🐾

Luna is a sweet 2-year-old Cattle Dog mix — or at least that's our best guess! She came to us as a stray, so unfortunately, we don't know much about her past. What we do know is that Luna has been an absolute pleasure since arriving at the shelter!

Luna has done wonderfully with people, other dogs, and walking on a leash. She has a calm, easygoing demeanor and great manners. She's the kind of girl who doesn't need to be the center of attention, but certainly enjoys affection.

Luna has been waiting for her chance, and we'd love nothing more than to see her walking out the door and into her forever home very soon. Could Luna be the missing piece to your family?

THEY NEED US. THEY NEED YOU. 💔🐾

This week, the Tri-County Shelter in Cumberland County reached out for our help. They rescued these six puppies found dumped in the woods, where they were left to survive on their own. Tri-County lacks the space and resources needed to care for these helpless babies, and we knew we had to step up.

We have 6 puppies safely in our care, while rescue teams continue working to humanely trap 4 remaining siblings still in the woods.

The puppies are suffering from Sarcoptic mange, and their road to recovery will be long and costly. They’ll need 4 to 8 weeks of intensive medical quarantine, antibiotics, and medicated baths. We’ll also require protective gear for our staff, because Sarcoptic mange is contagious to humans.

Beyond the malnutrition and skin discomfort, these puppies are terrified and emotionally shut down. With time, medical care, and gentle hands, we can heal their skin and show them human kindness for the first time, but we need your help to cover their care.

BIG DOG SPOTLIGHT: Meet Little Bit! Sponsored by Freedom Contracting. 🐾

Well… the name might say Little Bit, but there is absolutely nothing little about this boy. At just 6 months old, Little Bit is already a whopping 75 pounds of puppy! 🐶

Little Bit was surrendered when he simply got too big for his family, but this gentle giant is ready to find a home that has plenty of room for his big body and even bigger heart.

Despite his size, Little Bit is an absolute sweetheart. He loves attention and has the cutest habit of pawing at you when you pet him. He loves spending time outside and is always ready for playtime. He’s also almost completely housebroken and picking things up quickly.

Little Bit is GREAT with small dogs and children. He’s a big puppy, so he’ll definitely still need help learning his manners, but he is remarkably gentle!

Come give this “little” guy some love and see if he’s the big-hearted companion you’ve been looking for.

Our girl Scarlett got to test out the soon-to-be cat room for some much-deserved exercise and playtime! It’s not quite ready for feline residents yet, but this girl was more than happy to take it for a spin in the meantime.

Scarlett has been cooped up in a rabbit crate at the shelter for over a month, so getting to stretch her legs and explore was pure magic. She is beyond ready to find a forever home where she can roam, play, and live her best life.

Have you ever seen a 77-pound Dachshund?! Meet Ace, a 2-year-old certified lowrider with a whole LOT of dog attached! He is listed as a Dachshund mix, and while we may have a few questions about the math, there is no questioning that Ace is one BIG, lovable sausage!

Ace is sweet, housebroken, good with other dogs, and good with children. Ace does need to start a weight-loss journey, so his new family will need to be committed to helping him get healthier through proper portions, exercise, and lots of encouragement.

Scooby is a 3-year-old Pit Bull mix who is one smart, active, and lovable guy looking for a new place to call home!

Scooby came to us after his family realized that his indoor/outdoor lifestyle was no longer safe on their property. He absolutely loved living on the farm and was wonderful with the farm animals, but with no fence, Scooby had a habit of wandering off on his own adventures. His family wanted to make sure he could be safe and happy, so they made the difficult decision to surrender him.

Scooby is a smart dog who needs a job to do! He would thrive with an active family who can give him plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, training, and activities to keep his clever mind busy. Big hearts, big personalities, big LOVE! 🐾❤️

Large dogs fill shelter kennels across the nation, making them the most vulnerable population in our care. Because big dogs face unfair stigmas and take longer to find homes, our shelter resources and space are often stretched to the limit. But as anyone who has ever loved a big dog knows, the joy they bring into a household is completely unmatched.

BIG thanks to BGWCHS board member Benita Bartley for inviting us to observe life with four amazing dogs, and to Debbie Salyer, mom to our 2027 Fur Ball Mascot, Charlie!
