Warren County Parks has eight storm shelters throughout its park system. These shelters are built to withstand winds of 200+mph. These facilities are open to the public and staffed by Warren County Parks for use only when tornado watch and/or warning alerts are issued by the National Weather Service (not severe thunderstorm alerts). All tornado shelters are stocked with weather radio, flashlights, and other various emergency items. All facilities have changing tables, and some have restrooms. Pets are permitted at the parks shelter if they are leashed or caged. Look for the tornado shelter signs to direct you to the shelters when you enter the parks.
Three county fire stations - Alvaton Station 1, Alvaton Station 3, and Plano Station 1 - also have public tornado shelters. Pets are NOT allowed at the fire department shelters. These shelters also open when a tornado watch and/or tornado warning is issued.
Please see the attached graphic for locations of the shelters.
