The Big purple Barn, located at Hidden Haven Farm, is a non profit organization that seeks to promote the horse human bond through innovative education and outreach programs we offer to the community that utilize our resident equines. We provide a

We provide volunteer opportunities, horse care education, riding lessons, day camps and various programs throught the year. Our volunteer staff is highly trained, our resident horses are personable and eager to interact with people and our programs are are geared towards teaching people about the joys and responsibilities of horses.

Good morning farm family,

It is $5 Friday and Honor is looking forward to his farrier trim! It is time for each and every hoof to be trimmed and balanced by our farrier, and that includes Abby! She has finally stabilized in her regrowth phase and can be on the same trim cycle as the other horses 🐎 πŸ™ŒπŸ₯³.

Our horses see the farrier at approximately 6 week intervals. It is one of our biggest care budget items each year, but critical to the comfort and health of the resident horses.

Good morning farm family,

I often speak of the "power of the herd," because it is a critical component in the healing work we do here for both humans AND animals. The collective knowledge and intuitive interactions of our herd help facilitate life-changing connections. Our job is to support the animals here physically and medically, and allow them to find friendship and emotional healing in the group.

Friendship is powerful medicine. Horses can support other horses in ways we humans cannot replicate. The NEED interaction and immersion in their friend groups. They NEED the herd.

Eight years ago, an emaciated Summer arrived here on the farm. She was withdrawn from humans and showed little interest in anything other than food. While she had been living in a small group of horses, she seemed withdrawn from even the horses here. That is, until she met Jewel, her future best friend.

Summer took immediate interest in Jewel, and although in her compromised state, she couldn't go out with other horses, she absolutely enjoyed her daily fence visits. Jewel seemed to enjoy them just as much! Jewel seemed to be the missing piece of the the puzzle and helped support Summer in ways only a horse could.

Today, these two are nearly inseparable best friends! And they won't need to be separated because they will live their lives here at the sanctuary.

Your support has allowed us to provide life-changing care and friendships for 25 years! Please consider even a small monthly pledge of $25 to help continue our commitment to the caee of these amazing, resilient animals AND to our community!

Good morning farm family,

8 years ago an emaciated horse stepped off the trailer to her forever home here. She was so withdrawn and uninterested in anything but food. She had been starved for an extended period of time and at one point, had resorted to eating the actual lumber her shelter was made from. Her body score was barely a 2 out of 10, and she was in danger of organ failure as well as refeeding syndrome. Her skeleton was visible, she had sores, she needed her hooves trimmed and her teeth attended to and her mane and tail were matted in knots.

Summer had gone from a beloved member of the Statesman Farm herd in Woodstock MD, to Georgia to deliver her foal after her owner died in a tragic accident. From there she went to a farm in Virginia where sje was thought to ne cared for, bit instead she languished until help finally arrived and we were able to step in! We partnered with our veterinary team to evaluate her condition and build a plan to help her gain weight safely and return her to optimal health. We worked with the dentist to ensure her teeth were properly floated to allow her to eat comfortably and our farrier helped get her hooves in shape. Our volunteers worked tirelessly each and every day to support her recovery and show her the love she'd been missing. Our donors stepped up and helped fund one of the most amazing πŸ‘ transformations we've accomplished to date!

Today, Summer is a beloved member of OUR herd, where she will remain for her life! She shines like a newly minted coin. She adores children and soaks up all of the attention you can give her. She participates in our education and outreach programs and she absolutely loves interacting with guests. She appears in many guest photos, usually with her bestie, Jewel. She now believes the world revolves around her and is quite the demanding diva! Her best friend is Jewel and she spends her days with food, friends and lots of love ❀️.

Summer's story didn't have just a simple happy ending. 7 years after her rescue, we found her grandson in North Carolina and were able to bring HIM to the sanctuary as well, keeping him safe for a lifetime πŸ’™. He not only joins his grandma Summer, but also his cousin, Suzie. We are thrilled to be able to keep some of the family together πŸ₯°.

We can make these amazing transformations and commit to the extraordinary care these animals need because of YOU and our community of care πŸ’•. The donations you make enable us to fund these transformations and fuel their lifetime of care. We couldn't do it without you!

Happy Gotcha Day, Summer β˜€οΈ! Here's to many more! πŸŽ‰

Yours in love ❀️ and light ✨️,
Tara
