Welcome our new President, Sonja Dinkins!
2nd Star is pleased to announce that Sonja Dinkins has been elected President of the Board of Directors following a special election held on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Sonja Dinkins is a New York City native and former Bowie resident, where she spent over 15 years raising her two incredible daughters with her former husband. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Theatre Arts and acted and directed in community productions before taking a hiatus to embrace her most rewarding role—being a mother.
Sonja marked her official return to theatre with 2nd Star's for colored girls… as Lady in Yellow. She also appeared as Ida B. Wells-Barnett in It’s My Party, Baaba in Around the Snake Turn, The Scientist in Human Museum, and Mrs. Durant in Cactus Flower. Her offstage contributions include producing 2nd Star's Legally Blonde and its upcoming winter musical, as well as serving as Stage Manager and Assistant Director with theatres throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.
Professionally, Sonja is an Operations Manager at a major financial institution, where she specializes in team leadership, process improvement, and change management. She also previously served as an usher at the Kennedy Center, collaborating with head ushers and house managers to deliver world-class patron experiences.
Her passion for extraordinary leadership, staying well-traveled, and staying culturally aware has prepared her to create memorable theater experiences. Sonja is determined to lead 2nd Star in informing, inspiring, and galvanizing the community through seminal art and literature.
