From October 5 through November 30, 2026, we are accepting tax-deductible monetary donations to help provide:

🍎 Food Support — nutritious food and pantry essentials
⛽ Gas Assistance — transportation support for work, school, and medical appointments
🧥 Winter Clothing & Essentials — coats, shoes, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and hygiene items
🧸 Children’s Toys — helping make the holidays brighter for children in our communities

In 2025, Grandparents Patricia and Thomas arrived at Templeton Elementary, they appeared to be visibly in shock. The grandfather, unable to contain his emotions, sat down in tears and urged his wife to tell everyone what had just happened. The grandmother shared the news with everyone present, revealing that they had just left the courthouse to discover they had been appointed as the new guardians of their young grandchildren. She told us that her daughter had passed away earlier in 2025 from brain cancer and the children’s father had taken them to live with him until he too tragically passed away from pneumonia later in 2025. Despite both having recently retired, they were unaware that they would be chosen to raise these little girls.

We paused to offer our prayers for this family, providing them with hope during this challenging time. They received our gifts and expressed their gratitude for the generosity shown to them.

On September 9, 2026, the grandparents visited Templeton Elementary to receive backpacks and take a tour of the brand-new school building where their grandchildren would be attending. They joined the long line of parent with children, but when she looked up and recognized it was us giving out the backpacks, she pushed her way forward to give us a big hug. She expressed how much the gifts from the previous year had helped alleviate their burdens and blessed them in ways they could never have imagined. The shoes and coats that fit their little girls, especially the toys, gave them hope. Additionally, the money we gave them was used to purchase new clothes for the girls, as they arrived with clothes that were two sizes too small for either of them. They never forgot those blessings! When she saw us, she couldn’t help but run to thank God for sending us during those difficult and trying times. Last night, both grandparents looked radiant and the kids were filled with laughter and could not stop hugging their grandparents. We are so thankful for our donors and volunteers to keep us prepared for emergencies like this real life story in 2026

On August 26, 2026, dedicated volunteers joined Praying for Pennies to deliver 100 filled backpacks with 50 item supplies to a Back to School Night at Southwest Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. The school counselor informed parents about the event and a backpack giveaway a week prior. The event had a record-breaking turnout, with parents hoping to get school supplies for their entire family. Praying for Pennies suggested parents pick a backpack for their child attending Southwest Academy and wait for supplies for other children attending different schools. Sadly, we couldn’t help parents with multiple children as all backpacks were given out. This was Praying for Pennies’ first support for Southwest Academy’s Back to School night, which usually attracts only 40-50 parents. However, times have changed, and this next generation of children will need more help from parents, teachers, staff, neighbors and anyone with a generous heart to give!

Your help has been invaluable in teaching us how to effectively connect with school liaisons and staff, ensuring that the most vulnerable families at your school get the support they desperately need.

Praying for Pennies was honored to support Maryland School of the Deaf (MSD) for the first time on August 24, 2026 with filled backpacks. We saw two stories that touched our hearts during this incredible outreach:

1. A volunteer from my community who is deaf joined PFP at MSD. She went to this school when she was young and was looking forward to passing out the backpacks. She suddenly saw one of her teachers she had not seen in over 40 plus years coming down the hall. We witness tears of joy as they could not sign fast enough from the excitement of running into each other while serving in the community.
2. I spoke to a family with twins boys. One could hear and the other could not. The father encouraged his entire family to learn American Sign Language (ASL) to make sure all could communicate and support both baby boys to the fullest. They sold their home and moved closer to Maryland School of the Deaf. What I learned during this visit is some families do not even try to learn ASL and therefore, the deaf child suffers and feels isolated. But, not at Maryland School of the Deaf. The staff is incredibly engaged and connected to their children and the entire family. I witnessed the love and excitement from the kids to come back to school. This outreach experience was a great example of serving with a purpose

Praying for Pennies extends its deepest gratitude and appreciation to every volunteer and donor who generously supported the 2026 Rising Scholars Backpack Assembly Event held yesterday, August 22, 2026 at Two Rivers Elementary School. We can hardly express how grateful we are for your time and energy! Your incredible performance of an hour and 30 minutes shattered all assembly records. We were fortunate to have the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha all present. However, one little girl truly stole the show! Do you all recall at the end of the assembly when all volunteers lined up for a group photo, but this little 2-3-year-old girl suddenly stepped out of the picture area. Everyone froze for a few seconds, watching her determinedly go where she wanted to go. She passed our photographer, Patricia Williams, went to her seat, grabbed her teddy bear, and then marched back to the group, insisting that she couldn’t take the photo without her teddy bear. We all witnessed such an innocent moment while volunteering, which reminded us of the importance of being present and purposeful for our next generation. Thank you again!
