This past Saturday, November 15th, Bow PD had a very unusual call for service at the AllTown truck stop. A long-haul trucker flagged down Sgt. Handy with a logistical emergency of the poultry variety. His problem? An unexpected surplus of approximately 250 whole chickens—perfectly good and ready for roasting, but with nowhere to go!
Never ones to chicken out of a challenge, Sgt. Handy and Sgt. Coady teamed up with our friends at the Bow Fire Department to hatch a plan. With a few quick calls, they connected with the amazing crew at the Friendly Kitchen in Concord, who were more than happy to take the flock off our hands and get them into pots, ovens, and ultimately the plates of community members who need them most.
Big thanks to the trucker for reaching out, to Friendly Kitchen for their incredible work, and to our firefighters for always being game for a good deed (and a good bird).
Just another day proving that when our community works together, we can turn a fowl situation into something truly wonderful. ❤️🐔
