Drop by the Bountiful Veterans Park every Wednesday evening anytime between 18:00 (6 pm) and dusk to visit with local vets. The Park is located at 750 S 100 East (next to the Bountiful Library and Bountiful City Hall).

Veterans from the Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, and the War on Terror will share their personal experiences, answer your questions, and brief you on the Walls which have the names of over 7,000 veterans from South Davis County engraved on them.

This is an informal, family-friendly event for everyone - individuals, families, youth groups, veterans, etc.

We continue to receive names for engraving on the Walls in the Bountiful Veterans Park. A recent submission was for a veteran who served in the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican American War (1846-48). He joins four other's who also served in the Battalion during that conflict and whose names are already on the Walls.

At the age of twenty-nine, George Washington Taggart enlisted in the Company B of the Mormon Battalion, one of five hundred men who set out between July 16-22, 1846 to commence an unparalleled march of two thousand miles on foot through the barren deserts and across the mountains of the southwest to California. George enlisted as a musician playing a fife that he made himself. The Battalion suffered from lack of water until their tonques would swell. George would walk the mules so they might live, until his feet would bleed. Of the original five hundred men only 335 reached California.

Taggart resided in Bountiful for several years when he was hired by Heber C. Kimball to build the grist mill on Mill stream, just south of Bountiful High School on Orchard Drive.

The names of an additional 189 individuals who have served or are serving in the active forces, the reserves or the national guard and who have resided in Bountiful, Centerville, North Salt Lake, Woods Cross or West Bountiful sometime during their lives were engraved on Walls 4A and 4B on Thursday, May 21.

The photos show the template that is applied to the wall with the names, the sandblasting of the names into the wall and the removal of the template once the engraved names have been spray painted white.
