What fruit became a classic holiday treat during WWII because it was hard to get?

A: Oranges.

Citrus was rationed and hard to come by, so an orange in a Christmas stocking became a symbol of generosity and care during the war years.

Simple things mattered then. They still do now.

If your parent served in WWII, Vietnam, or the Korean War, there may still be benefits they earned that were never claimed. APSC helps families uncover what’s available and guides them through the process.

Q: What famous WWII general asked Americans to write letters to veterans in hospitals after the war ended?

 A: General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

In 1945, Eisenhower urged the public to write to wounded veterans “especially as the holidays approach”, to make sure they knew they weren’t forgotten.

That was nearly 80 years ago. But many veterans and their families still feel left behind by the VA system.
At APSC, we help children of veterans navigate the benefits process, even decades later. If you’re not sure what’s available, we’ll help you find out.

Q: What U.S. government program started handing out free pumpkins during WWII?

A: The Victory Garden initiative.

To reduce strain on the food supply, families were encouraged to grow their own food, including pumpkins, and over 20 million gardens popped up across the country.

Many WWII veterans came home to those same gardens and got to work rebuilding the lives they left behind.

Some of them never applied for the benefits they earned.

Some tried and were denied.

Some of their families are still eligible today.

APSC helps children of WWII and Vietnam veterans understand what’s still available. We handle the paperwork so you can handle the legacy.
