To the people of Utah,
Utahs “Dixie” has become the latest battle ground of the politically correct on their cancel culture crusade. Recently the DSU administration, board of trustees, and a majority of the Utah legislators have ignored the opinions and wishes of the majority of Utahns, and have begun a process to remove “Dixie” from the university.
Now some of our Utah friends elsewhere in the state may be confused or wonder why they should care about what goes on in Southern Utah. Put plainly, if cancel culture isn’t stopped here how long before it makes its way up I-15 and throughout the state? If not stopped here, how long before the cancel culture mob comes again for the University of Utah’s Ute Mascot? Then maybe when they are done there they’ll demand the B.Y. come off of BYU and take the Y from the mountain? Then maybe they’ll work on other schools throughout the state. Does anyone think Ogden’s Friendly Fighting Scotts, Escalante’s Moquis, Spanish Fork’s Dons, Manti’s Templars, Bountiful’s Braves are safe if Dixie State goes down?
If our schools get cancelled will Utahs towns be next? Monticello named after Thomas Jefferson’s estate and plantation? Washington City named after our first president, who too was a slaveholder. Monroe named for James Monroe our fifth president and another plantation owner. What about any town whose name has religious connotations or connections? Bountiful, Lehi, Nephi, Moab, Orderville, Enoch, Ephraim, Manti, Farr West, Hyrum, Joseph, Moroni, Taylorsville, Brigham City, Scipio? After all why should someone whose not religious be forced to drive past these signs on the road or live in one of them?
Does anyone think this politically correct culture will stop with sacrificing Dixie? Of course not any attempts to appease the ignorant and unappeasable will only further embolden them. While it may not be your school our town today, it very well could be your schools, your communities, your ancestors legacy’s and your traditions and heritage on the cancel culture block tomorrow.
