Read about CU Engage's CU Public Achievement program below!

“I could literally say that it (Public Achievement) changed my life,” said Medrano, who is now 20 and began her term as the youngest member of Lafayette City Council this past December. “When I was introduced to the program, it really gave me that social justice lens that I never learned anywhere. And it put a name to the experiences that I had been living through my childhood and up to high school. It made me realize I’m not the only one that experiences this discrimination and feeling of not belonging. It’s a larger issue.”

CU Engage’s Public Achievement program inspires middle and high school students to tackle social issues — and give back to their communities.

CU Public Achievement's 11th Grade Ethnic Studies.

“Whether it happens within their time in PA or later, the program helps give students an understanding and a knowing that their voice, their agency, their experiences have inherent value,” said Soraya Latiff, CU Boulder’s Assistant Program Director. “They can actually create and change important things.”

Students in CU Boulder’s Public Achievement program and Centaurus High School are joining forces to increase ethnic studies offerings for area youth.
