This is why American girl dolls help kids fight cancer. They provide normalcy, make chemo less scary, and bring beautiful moments like these. Cancer will change a childhood, but we won’t let it take it entirely.

Last week, our sweet friend Brielle Bird passed away after a 5 year fight with neuroblastoma. Finding the words to say goodbye and properly honor her is not easy. Brielle was full of joy and kindness. She worked so hard to help others, helping with fundraisers, delivering Christmas gifts to all the cancer fighters at her hospital, and always trying to make her siblings smile. Despite fighting cancer twice, she was always positive and ready to smile. Brielle deserved so much more than the 9 years that she got. Our hearts are broken to have to say goodbye to her.
Brielle, thank you for all you have taught me. I love you, Heidi’s Heroes will never stop fighting for you. You are my hero.

September is childhood cancer awareness month. How horrifying is it that all 6 of the most common drugs used for childhood cancer were approved over 40 years ago? While kids have had only 4 drugs approved since then, adults have had almost 130 new chemotherapies approved. All of these treatments were designed for adults, not specifically for children. We need better treatments for these kids. They deserve more.

Meet our sweet friend Ezra!

Ezra is a 3 year old boy who’s a bright, humorous ball of energy. He is always quick to give the last chip in the bag, and share his favorite toy with you.

Unfortunately one month before Ezra’s 3rd birthday, doctors discovered multiple tumors attached to both of his kidneys. A trip to the ER for a cough and tummy ache turned into shocking and devastating news.

Ezra was transported to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where the best oncologist are helping him receive treatment and providing a positive environment during such a difficult time.

Ezra has now completed 12 weeks of chemotherapy. By the grace of God, one tumor is completely gone, and the others have shrunk by over 50%! His doctors said it’s been a very long time since they’ve seen results this fast.

Next step for him is surgery, so his mom asks that you please continue to lift her baby up in your prayers. She says God is hearing them, and He’s answering! They also have a GoFundMe in her bio if you’d like to support his fight!

Today we are happy to share the story of our new friend Isabelle!

Isabelle is an incredibly resilient soon-to-be 7 year old who was diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer, CNS neuroblastoma, a highly malignant tumor of the central nervous system (CNS-NB-FOXR2) when she was 4 years old.

Just before her 4th birthday, she experienced severe headaches, sometimes accompanied by vomiting. Per her pediatrician’s advice, her family kept a close watch as her symptoms persisted for a few weeks. One morning, her headache pain became so severe her family sought emergency care at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

The team at PCH conducted additional testing, which revealed the cancerous tumor. For 9 months, Isabelle underwent intensive inpatient treatment in the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders (CCBD), including high-dose chemotherapy treatment and stem cell transplants. While in treatment, she earned the nickname “Warrior Princess,” often sporting a well-deserved crown.

In May 2023, Isabelle completed treatment and was given a royal hospital discharge — a celebratory procession from her adoring care team, complete with cheers, a gift presentation and colorful streamers.

Today Isabelle is as full of life and sassy as ever. She will turn 7 later this month and looks forward to her birthday party and figuring out what she will dress up as for Halloween. She continues to be closely monitored by her care team at PCH and works with additional specialists, as she navigates the longer-term effects of her intensive treatment. She remains to this day the Warrior Princess!

Meet Blakely! She was barely 3 years old when she was diagnosed in January 2024 with stage 3 hepatoblastoma. What doctors mistook for constipation for months was found to actually be a 20cm tumor on Blakely’s liver. She went through 7 rounds of chemo and a liver transplant, and rang the remission bell in August 2024. Unfortunately, she relapsed 5 months later, on the one year anniversary of her initial diagnosis. Since then, Blakely has gone through two more surgery’s to remove tumors, one that is now on her new liver. She has also had 3 more rounds of chemo, and more to come to try to beat her cancer once again. Despite all this, Blakely continues to be full of joy and light! Help us say a prayer that she will be back in remission soon. Blakely, you’re amazing! We’re so proud of you!
