Growing Up Boulder Growing Up Boulder is a “child- and youth-friendly city initiative," and we are a nonprofit fiscally sponsored by the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center.

Our mission is to offer Boulder's young people opportunities to participate, deliberate, and influence local issues that affect their lives. We do this through our close collaborations with the City of Boulder, BVSD, University of Colorado and 50 other partners.

Growing Up Boulder Executive Director Mara Mintzer spoke on a panel at the American Academy of Pediatrics American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference this past Sunday in San Diego along with Boulder teen and City of Boulder Youth Opportunities Advisory Board member Amelia Grayson and UNICEF USA Managing Director, Community Alliance for Child Rights !

They talked about how meaningful youth participation looks in practice, how young people can help shape decisions in their communities, and how pediatricians can help make space for young people to be heard and taken seriously—both in their practices and beyond. Thank you to session organizers: Mikah Owen, Rita Nathawad, and Karla Palmer, who recognize the importance of youth voice to young people’s well-being.

Mara Mintzer, the executive director and co-founder of Growing Up Boulder and Charlotte, the City of Boulder Parks Planner, attended the WHO European Healthy Cities Conference. Mara and Charlotte were able to share the important work that Growing Up Boulder does and how we collaborate with the City of Boulder. The conference brought together city leaders, researchers, and partners from across the globe to share how to make communities healthy and sustainable. Mara and Charlotte had an amazing time speaking on how Growing Up Boulder is making an impact by creating child-friendly cities.
