Earlier this month, 14 students from our Scholarship Program spent the day exploring one of southern Haiti’s most unique cultural and historical landmarks: the famous 500 Steps of Aux Coteaux. 🇭🇹
After sharing breakfast together, the students traveled to the site, where they learned about its history, religious significance, and role as an important tourist destination in the region. Built in 2000, the 500 Steps lead to a mountaintop sanctuary overlooking the town of Aux Coteaux, the coastline, and the Caribbean Sea beyond.
When the students reached the top, they took time to rest, reflect, and enjoy the view. The outing was a great success, providing not only a fun and memorable experience, but also an opportunity for meaningful conversation, engagement, and relationship-building amongst the students.
Experiences like these help students build community, explore their country’s rich cultural heritage, and create memories that extend far beyond the classroom. 💙
