Boy Scout Troop 171 - Boulder, CO This group is for all current and past adults and Scouts that were in or are in Troop 171 B and G in Boulder, CO.

It was a gruesomely fun time! Three Scouts and eight Scout leaders were trained in Wilderness First Aid in a 16-hour NOLS class.

We require a WFA-trained adult be present on all our outdoor excursions.

During our January campout, one Scout built the below awesome snow cave to sleep in. Many said that he slept warmer than the everyone else who slept in tents. Have you ever slept in a snow cave?

Who wants to become Troop 171's Bugler?

ASM Charlotte Mudar donated an official BSA bugle to Troop 171!

In 1970, Charlotte's parents, Joseph and Mary, gave it to Charlotte's brother. David proudly became the Bugler for his Troop, #391 in Hamburg, MI.

Did you know that a BSA Official Bugle is the same as a military standard bugle? It has 5 notes and is in the key of G.

This week's meeting featured team building exercises -- name and birthday game, telephone, the marble in a trough race, and zombie tag. Silly and tricky competitions in preparation for the annual Klondike in February.

We had a fabulous campout helping a rancher cut down trees to make a healthier forest and for fire mitigation. What did we do with all those felled trees? We built shelters, slept in them overnight, and then took them down and scattered the logs. Leave no trace.

Our young Scouts just completed a Micro Adventure: an introduction to backpacking. Here they learned how to pack gear, how to purify water, and the other skills to prepare them for longer treks.

Our Story

Our troop is two troops in one. Troop 171 BT (Boy Troop) is joined with Troop 171 GT (Girl Troop). We function as two separate troops under the same sponsor, Adult Committee and a shared Scout Leader Staff.

Troop 171 has a very active program teaching Scout skills, advancement and outdoor activities. Troop 171 offers age-appropriate backpacking treks and other adventures in Colorado and Utah. We attend a week-long Scout camp each summer. Our high adventures include wilderness treks, ice-climbing, and sea kayaking in Alaska and scuba diving in the Caribbean.

Troop 171 was started in 1952. As of 2018, 201 Scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scouts. Now, girls have the opportunity to join Scouting BSA and earn the rank of Eagle Scout as well.
