Introducing Mario Santacruz-Martinez, who will be bringing a collaborative art project to the cumbre this year!

🎨✊🏽🏴🖋️

Mario is a multidisciplinary Chicano artist based in Greeley, Colorado. His family comes from Monterrey, Mexico. Mario works to amplify marginalized communities’ stories and uplift people through his art. “Art is that bridge: between people, cultures, systems, and time. When words fail, art doesn’t,” he says.

Mario will be facilitating a creative space in which youth will have the opportunity to transform and bring to life a banner bringing together Art & Activism (Artivismo). Youth will learn about the role of art in resistance movements historically, and the piece they co-create will be displayed at the closing celebration of the cumbre!

Thank you, Mario, for bringing the experience of Artivismo to the 19th annual Cumbre Juvenil!

Introducing our 2025 keynote Emcee, Danzante, and workshop leader Mister Mario José Olvera! .j.olvera

🪶 🔥 🪘 💧 🎶 ✊🏽 🎤

Mister Mario was inspired by hip hop culture at a young age. “As a poet, mover, writer, musician, and visual artist, hip hop has given me many great tools and experiences that involve positivity, community, and social justice,” he says.

As a Mexica Otomi man, one expression of .j.olvera cultural identity is Danza Mexica, an ancient moving prayer and offering which will be presented along with his local community of danzantes at the opening of the Cumbre.

Mister Mario’s heart and hands are involved in many other art forms as well, including poetry, music, dance, calligraphy, and painting. He practices and teaches many of these art forms at local cultural and artistic sanctuary

For this year’s cumbre, Mister Mario will also be sharing a Mexica day sign print workshop, in which participants will find their tonalamatl, or Mexica energy symbol, based on the day & time of their birth. Participants will then create a stamped print of the symbol’s image to take with them.

We are honored and grateful for all of the wisdom & fire you are bringing to the 19th annual Cumbre Juvenil, Mister Mario! 🙏🏽
