Angelica graduated with a major in Elementary Education with an Endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. She also obtained minors in Ethic Studies and Leadership Studies and was selected as the School of Education’s Outstanding Graduate! Angelica now looks to follow her dreams of giving back to her community and working for a non profit organization while beginning to think and plan for graduate school🤓🎓💖💜

Maria graduated with a double major in Political Science and Ethnic Studies as well as obtaining minors in Women and Gender Studies and Leadership. This fall Maria will continue her studies at the University of Colorado Boulder beginning her Masters in Higher Education🎓🥳💖💜

Juneteenth is a special celebration that commemorates the end of the US’ historic practice of slavery.⁠

Many people think of President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, issued on 1 January 1863, as the official end of slavery.⁠
⁠
But in reality, many African descendants remained enslaved for several years after the proclamation was made.⁠
⁠
On 19 June 1865, about two months after Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African-Americans of their freedom and that the Civil War had ended.⁠
⁠
General Granger’s announcement finally put Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation into effect, marking the day enslaved African-Americans throughout the US were finally free.⁠

Although slavery still wouldn’t legally end in all states until the December 1865 ratification of the 13th Amendment, 19 June, the day that became known as Juneteenth, was the day when the last enslaved people in America were freed, resulting in massive celebrations.⁠

We are happy to announce that we will be hosting our annual Mr. Majestic male beauty pageant. Tickets to this event directly support our annual scholarship fund. Our contestants will be participating for a chance to win a $100 dollar cash prize. This year we are starting a new tradition by donating $100 to a community organization picked by our winner!
