Boulder County works because we do! Boulder County workers from across different departments took to the podium at the County Commissioners’ meeting on April 2nd to share their stories and stand up for a fair first contract.

We called for stronger immigrant protections, job security, and a contract that truly reflects our needs.

Boulder County works because we do, and we believe collaboration and transparency are the only way to get through this next budget crisis. Become a member to continue to make sure your voices are heard. Join at bit.ly/BCEU-Card today.

Since last June, our bargaining committee has been negotiating protections for immigrant workers. The commissioners and their attorneys have refused to negotiate a single sentence of our immigration protections article - they crossed out every word of our proposal.

This is unacceptable! Immigrants in our workforce are under great stress and fearing for their lives and those of their families. We are standing by them!

Please support us by signing our letter to the commissioners!

We are going to the Boulder County Commissioners to tell them why we need a strong contract and share our stories. They need to hear from us, especially in the midst of massive budget cuts!

Did you know that last June we proposed an article of immigrant protections to the commissioners and they struck through EVERY SINGLE WORD of the 4-page article, refusing to bargain even one single protection for our immigrant co-workers? We bring this article up at nearly every bargaining session, and the county says no to this article every single time. At a time when our federal government is targeting Black and Brown members of our community and our workforce, the commissioners and elected officials say no to preserving protections for immigrant workers in our bargaining agreement. BCEU will not stand for this!

Join us on April 2 to show our power and our perseverance!

Along with our public action, we are writing these postcards to the commissioners as part of our Give Us Our Flowers campaign. To submit a quote for a postcard, please email [email protected].

Every time we have mobilized our unit for public actions, we have made huge gains for our union. Public pressure matters! We refuse to allow the commissioners to hide behind the expensive union-busting law firm they hired as they continue to reject common sense protections at the bargaining table.

BCEU has been negotiating our first contract for the last 10 months. Boulder County management has been committed to giving our unit as few protections as possible.

We need our people to show up now so we can let the commissioners know what is important to us.

Recently, Boulder County has been unwilling to negotiate protections for immigrant workers. They crossed out every single word of our proposal for an immigrant protection article and stated, "We do not believe this is subject to negotiations." We will not stand for this!

Additionally, the county must make millions of dollars in cuts over the coming years. They laid off over 50 members of our bargaining unit last year, with little notice and almost no empathy. We are asking for increased layoff notice, increased recall rights, severance, and alternatives to layoff. The county will not budge.

BCEU bargaining unit folks - please join us on March 18 or March 25 via Teams to learn more about our current campaign, what has been happening at the bargaining table, and how you can help protect yourselves during upcoming budget cuts!

And we are calling on our union siblings and community partners to join us at the April 2 general monthly public comment session before the commissioners. Please wear red and come support our brave members as they share their stories with the commissioners.

We have been fighting hard for better workplace protections for our co-workers and a better future for everyone we serve! It has never been easy, but we are remaining steadfast. BCEU is united, strong, and ready to stand up for our people! We are stronger together! We will see you soon.
