We are grateful for these new faces to join our ranks and help serve our community! This comes at a great time since we had 4 vacant positions for months and several more officers on injury leave / light duty. The city continues to hold one of the sworn positions “hostage” so we remain not fully staffed, but our membership continues to show up and provide selfless service to Boulder City residents and visitors alike.

We do find it ironic that the city manager said in his brief speech at this event “public safety is a top priority for the city” but we don’t see how that can be true when we are 9 months and 1 day out of contract (taking a pay cut) with no end in sight due to our belief that the city has refused to negotiate fairly. Don’t forget the fact city council handed out 8.62% raises for certain city employees very recently, and the police department remains short staffed by a whole position from what we hear is the city’s refusal to fill it. Patrol shifts frequently operate at minimum staffing leading to burnout amongst our members, compounded by the loss of pay were been dealing with for almost a whole year. Really seems like public safety is the priority around here!

They’d likely be quick to blame a lot of this on the “budget” but we’ve shown for years they don’t seem to ever get those numbers right either, though that’s a post for another day…

Monday morning, Boulder City Police Chief Tim Shea swore in three new officers: Rayman Bateman and Zachary Martin, who graduated last week from the police academy, and Hi’ilani Waiwaiole, who finished the academy in September. The ceremony was well-attended by their family, friends, BCPD officers and staff. City Manager Ned Thomas, Deputy City Manager Michael Mays, Mayor Joe Hardy, Councilmember Sherri Jorgensen and City Staff also attended.

Officer Rayman Bateman grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to the area four years ago. “I did a ride-along with Boulder City (Police) and loved the city ever since, and now want to protect the City,” Ofc. Bateman told the audience at the Oath of Office Ceremony.
Officer Zachary Martin moved to Boulder City at a very young age and was raised here. His father is police officer for the National Park Service. He is a member of the Marine Corps. “I went to pre-school, elementary school, middle school and high school, so it’s an honor to serve the City now in this capacity,” Ofc. Martin said.
Officer Hi’ilani Waiwaiole moved here from Hawaii when she was ten years old. “I have a passion for public safety, I have a passion for people, for community.” Ofc. Waiwaiole said. “I feel like it’s never too late to strive for your aspirations!”
Video of the ceremony is posted at https://youtu.be/HtqRERN_7Dc. Congratulations to the new officers! We welcome them to our community!

It is with deep sadness that the Henderson Police Department shares the loss of Detective Brandonn Trotter, who passed away this morning following medical complications.

Detective Trotter joined the Henderson Police Department in 2007 and dedicated many years of service to protecting our community and supporting his fellow officers. He served the City of Henderson with commitment, integrity, and care, and to those who knew him, he was more than a colleague — he was a friend.

Our department is mourning this tremendous loss, and our thoughts are with Detective Trotter’s family, loved ones, and the many officers and staff who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Please keep his family, friends, and the Henderson Police Department in your thoughts during this difficult time. 💙

Retired LEOs… still got a little gas left in the tank?

The Boulder City Police Department is looking for two seasoned pros to join us in part-time commissioned roles:

City Marshal – Conservation Easement Patrol
Trade the cubicle for open desert. Off-road patrol. Protecting Boulder City’s conservation lands. Peace, quiet… and the occasional “What are you doing out here?” conversation.

City Marshal – Police Department
Professional presence at Boulder City events and facilities. Keep things smooth, safe, and squared away.

No midnight graveyard shifts. No starting over. Just experience appreciated and put to good use.

If you miss the badge, but not the full-time grind, this might be your sweet spot.
