This weekend marks the Orla Benson Memorial Tournament, a tournament that the ladies Gaelic football teams in Boston have proudly played in for over 30 years to keep Orla’s memory alive.

Recently, we heard from Orla’s family, who shared these touching words:

“Thank you for honouring our beloved, adored, talented daughter, who was so cruelly taken from us. We mourn her every day. We are deeply touched that you, the Irish community in Boston, even after 30 years still commemorate her memory with this cup.

Slán agus Beannacht,
Betty and Tom Benson and family”

This year, with the idea coming from her family, we are honored to introduce an MVP Award for the tournament.

Orla left this world far too soon, and we feel privileged to continue honoring her memory alongside the ladies teams throughout Boston through a sport we all love.

We are so excited for this day and to kick off off the season 🙌☘️

More than 30 years after her passing, Orla Benson’s memory continues to unite the Gaelic football community.

The Orla Benson Cup honors her legacy through a day of Ladies Gaelic Football at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, bringing together teams from across the Boston Northeast GAA Division in celebration of the game, friendship, and community.

More than just a tournament, this day is about every player who takes the field, every teammate who builds lifelong bonds, and every young woman inspired to pick up a football because of the path paved by those before her.

Though Orla was taken far too soon, her spirit lives on in every match played and in the heart of this community.

Gone too soon. Never forgotten. 💚🏐

We are so excited for this event ! Will be a great day for ladies football !

On Saturday, April 11th, the Irish Cultural Centre together with the Boston Shamrocks, is delighted to welcome the Liscannor Ladies Football team and Management to the ICC for the Irish Cultural Centre Invitational.

Games kick off at 1:00 PM:
• 1:00 PM – Boston Shamrocks vs. Liscannor Ladies
• 2:00 PM – Boston Féile Girls vs. Liscannor Youth
• 2:00 PM – Connacht Ladies vs. Carna Caiseal Ladies
• 3:30 PM – Ladies Final: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2

It promises to be a fantastic day celebrating ladies football, community, and culture.
And no Clare gathering would be complete without live Irish music and dance in the pub.
This event is open to the public and we would love to see you at the ICC cheering on the Liscannor Ladies.
