This is one of the weekends we look forward to all year because the camaraderie, friendships, and connections made both on and off the ice are truly unmatched. Veterans from different branches, backgrounds, and organizations come together with one shared mission: support one another, enjoy some great hockey, and give back to the community.

There will be plenty of competition, a lot of laughs, and memories that will last long after the final buzzer. Whether you're playing, volunteering, or cheering from the stands, you're part of something bigger than the game.

We can't wait to see old friends, meet new ones, and continue building the bonds that make the veteran community so special.

See you at the rink! 🏒🇺🇸💛🖤

Mark your calendars for our 6th Annual Summer Shootout August 7th-9th!!! Come out and support your Veterans and first responders. The weekend is open to the public and free to come check out some amazing hockey. This year we will also have two youth hockey games. These players have family members from the military or are first responders. We will also be collecting food donations for Long Island Cares to help families in need. Please bring any food donations during the weekend. Thank you to New York Islanders Miller & Caggiano, LLP and American Legion Post 1082 for your continued support to make this weekend happen.

The Great Hockey Debate: Which major hockey tragedy hurts the worst?

❤️ Love: Watching your team pull the goalie with 3 minutes left, only to give up an immediate empty-netter.

👍 Like: Buying a player's jersey, and they get traded or leave in free agency the very next week.

😮 Wow: Getting scored on by your own former player who has not scored a goal in 40 games.

😢 Sad: Blaming the refs for a loss when your own team took 8 penalties in a row.

No breakaways. No highlight-reel goals. Just a whole lot of skating, stick handling and veterans pretending they meant to lose the puck. 😅🏒

This weekend's practice was all about sharpening the fundamentals because the fancy stuff only works when the basics are dialed in.

Great work by everyone who hit the ice and kept pushing to get a little better than yesterday. Bonus points for everyone who made it through the drills without introducing themselves to the boards.

Player Spotlight: Kristin Russell 🏒

Originally from Bangor, Maine, this week’s spotlight features Kristin Russell, a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served from 2007–2015 as a 4341 Combat Correspondent, also known as “The Joker.”

Kristin’s journey into hockey started in a unique way — after her son began playing, she joined a group of 40+ hockey moms in Cincinnati who decided to take over an adult learn-to-play clinic together. What started as a fun challenge quickly turned into a passion for the game and the community it creates.

Growing up, she cheered for the New York Rangers, and today she continues to bring that same competitive spirit and camaraderie to the ice.

Kristin believes that service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. “People think service ends when you leave the military. It doesn’t. The Warriors are proof of that. It's a new mission, a new team, a new uniform, and another way to keep making an impact.”

Thank you for your service and for continuing the mission through hockey.

Player Spotlight: Thomas Pimentel 🏒

This week’s spotlight features Thomas Pimentel from Massachusetts, who continues to serve in the United States Army Reserve while also working as a Law Enforcement Officer.

With more than a decade of service on both Active Duty (AGR) and in the Army Reserve, Thomas currently holds the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) serving as a Horizontal Construction Engineer. His military career has taken him overseas in support of Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Epic Fury in the Middle East, where he’s led from the front as a team leader responsible for the accountability, welfare, and leadership of his soldiers.

For Thomas, hockey is more than just a game — it’s an outlet that reflects the same grit, discipline, resilience, and brotherhood that define his life in uniform. Whether overseas or back home, the ice gives him a place to reset, compete, and stay sharp both physically and mentally.

“Hockey keeps me grounded. It’s where I push myself, stay disciplined, and keep that competitive edge alive — it’s the chaos that quiets my mind.”

A dedicated competitor with a no-quit mindset, Thomas brings leadership, intensity, and heart every time he steps onto the ice.

Thank you for your continued service and for representing the veteran hockey community.
