Traveling with an LVAD can feel overwhelming at first.

What happens at security?
What if there is a delay?
Do I have enough power?

These are real questions.

The good news is that travel is possible with the right preparation. Many LVAD patients are able to fly and take trips safely when they plan ahead.

We created a guide based on real experience to help you navigate those moments with more confidence.

The First Night Home

The first night home after implant is something many people never forget.

The hospital feels safe. Monitored. Structured.

Home feels quiet.

Too quiet.

Every sound is amplified. Every alarm feels urgent.

Adjustment takes time. There is no switch that flips from hospital to “normal.”

If you remember that first night, you are not alone.

Caregivers Live This Too

When someone receives an LVAD, the whole household changes.

Caregivers learn equipment.
They sleep lighter.
They carry quiet fear they rarely talk about.

Support should not stop with the patient.

If you are a caregiver navigating this life, you matter here.

LVADStrong empowers patients and caregivers through support, education, and connection. We believe that no one should face this journey alone — and that with the right care, understanding, and community, LVAD patients can live stronger, fuller lives.

What Survival Actually Means

People say, “You’re lucky to be alive.”

And that’s true.

But survival with advanced heart failure is not the end of the story. It’s the beginning of a new one.

It means batteries.
It means planning around power.
It means alarms in the middle of the night.
It means learning how to be a different version of yourself.

You can be grateful and overwhelmed at the same time.

Both are allowed.

Heart Failure Is Not One Story

Heart failure does not look the same for everyone.

Some people are older.
Some are in their 30s and 40s.
Some were healthy and working a few months ago.

There is no single face of advanced heart failure.

The more we tell diverse stories, the more people feel seen.
