The infamous 117 Milepost Landslide!
Lots of dirt and mud totally blocked the trail.
Bikers had to walk around in the grass; but only for a day.
Cleaned up quite well.
Also; not pictured: Dravo Campground wood pile is restocked. Lots of grass was cut too..
Nice work Mon Yough Trail Council Volunteer Crew!!

We've had a slide about half way between Sutersville and Smithdale, GAP 117. It is passable by walking bikes through the grass. Trail users should use caution in this area. MYTC maintenance volunteers are working on a cleanup plan, possibly Saturday.
If you, or anyone you know, is interested in volunteering; we meet at 8am at Mon Yough Trail Council's maintenance building. The address is 7 Locust Grove Road, in Greenock, PA.
Thanks

Thursday April 30th, 2026, in Mon Yough Trail Council territory:

As I was wrapping up my 2 hour "Everyone Counts" session for the GAP Conservancy, a group of 4 trail riders pulled into Dravo cemetery and Queen Aliquippa campground. They were riding tandem bikes from Pittsburgh to DC.
Shawntina Gibson, hailing from Louisiana,
was the "stoker" (the person who is basically the rear mounted engine) on one of the tandem bikes.
The "pilot" (the person who steers, shifts, and in general controls the bike) was Nick, from Baltimore, Maryland.
Shawntina is a blind Navy veteran. It was her idea to create "Cane Up, Ride Out". It's a way for blind veterans to experience bicycle journeys. This was the trial expedition for "Cane Up, Ride Out".
I don't have a lot of details about Shawntina, as she was coordinating logistics over the phone with their support vehicle. I don't know what her rank was in the Navy, but she came across as a competent leader. She indicated that she is a triathlete.
The second tandem bike was manned by Marine Core veteran Jose Martinez from Texas, in the stoker seat. The pilot was veteran Tim from Baltimore. Jose is blind also.
What a worthy, inspiring endeavor! I was utterly humbled to meet these 4 epic journeyers.
Thanks for your service.
Godspeed Cane Up, Ride Out
