The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute is a center of Healing, Teaching and Learning for people impacted by murder, trauma, grief and loss.

Brown Peace Institute assists and empowers families impacted by violence by providing support to survivors of homicide victims. Applying their peace curriculum in area schools, the Peace Institute works to instill the value of peace in young people. Through education, collaboration, and policy advocacy, the Peace Institute works to raise awareness of the cause and consequences of violence on the individual, the family, and the community. On Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute's Unsolved Homicide Ambassadors gathered for their monthly meeting. The Ambassadors -- a survivor-led group whose loved ones were murdered and whose cases remain unresolved -- shared their experiences navigating and interacting with the criminal legal system.

Following that meeting, we sent all three candidates for Suffolk County District Attorney -- incumbent Kevin Hayden and challengers Rachael Rollins and Linda Champion -- seven questions addressing issues ranging from unsolved homicide investigations and accountability to survivors' rights, communication, preparation, and the continuing search for truth.

Weaving Art + Stories of Peace From Coast to Coast

Are you passionate about art, storytelling, leadership, and creating positive change in your community?

The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute is seeking 6 dedicated youth fellows to participate in the L.O.O.M. (Legacies of Organizing Memory) Fellowship, a transformative two-year partnership with Color Compton in Compton, California.

The L.O.O.M. Fellowship brings together young artists, storytellers, educators, and community leaders from both coasts to explore how art and storytelling can promote healing, preserve community memory, and inspire peace and justice.

Fellowship Commitment:

L.O.O.M. Fellows Trainers’ Institute #2
Dates: September 8, 2026; September 14-17, 2026
Time: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM daily
Location: Louis D. Brown Peace Institute
Facilitated by: Color Compton

This is a fellowship designed for students who are excited to grow as artists, leaders, and changemakers. Selected fellows are expected to fully participate in the Trainers’ Institute, attend fellowship gatherings throughout the program, and will be eligible to receive a travel grant to Compton, CA in 2027. Recommended age range 18-25 years old.

The Massachusetts primary election is right around the corner. Voting is a great way to make our voices heard, and honor the lives of our loved ones.

We encourage everyone to be civically engaged and participate in this year's primary election. Primary elections are tremendously important, especially here in MA, because they often decide the outcome of the general election in November. It's important that we show up to the ballot box prepared and ready to have an impact on our local and national governments.

After 28 years of wrongful incarceration, Stephen Pina deserves to have his name cleared and move forward surrounded by those who love him.

Yet, as the mother of a homicide victim, my heart and thoughts also turn to the family of Keith Robinson. When someone convicted of a murder is exonerated, the victim’s family and survivors are thrust into a new nightmare.

As this case prompts renewed conversation, I hope we can hold both of these truths at once: a wrongful conviction demands justice, and so does an unsolved homicide.

Stephen Pina and his family deserve justice. Keith Robinson’s name deserves to be remembered. His family deserves peace.
