Belén. Here was our last stop, where the river runs low in the dry season and most buildings sit up on stilts. We set up clinic in the shade underneath the market.

That made five communities in five days. At every stop, screening and treating kids for malnutrition was the heart of the work: weighing, measuring, and catching the cases that need treatment before they turn serious. We'll be back next year to see how they're doing.

Santa Maria del Ojeal. Our pharmacist, Ricky, runs a glucose test on an older man with diabetes.

We'd come mainly for the kids, but word travels quickly in a small town and the need doesn't stop at any age. So we saw whoever needed a look, whether it was parents, grandparents, or neighbors. When the mayor stopped in for his check-up, we left him a first-aid kit for the town to keep.

Indiana. A storm hit Indiana in the morning, and we figured that was it for turnout; it ended up the busiest day of the trip.

Families showed up early and in force, straight through the rain. Four members of the city council met us at the start and took turns speaking to the crowd about why child nutrition matters and why they were glad we'd come. They pulled our mission leader, Walker, up to say a few words too in front of all those families who'd made the trip in the storm.

Manacamiri. No road runs from Iquitos to Manacamiri, so we traveled the way everyone here does -- by river!

We load our supplies onto a pekepeke, a narrow motorized canoe, and headed downstream to the site. When we arrived, the children welcomed us with songs in their local Cocama language. Then, we got to work.

San Joaquin de Omaguas. Our first patient was small enough to hold, taking medicine from an oral syringe.

This was a lot of what the week looked like -- families lined up early to receive careful doses of vitamins and preventative anti-parasitic, one child at a time. Kids who finished their treatment got their pick from Walker's bag of toys. Worth it!

Our team spent five days in Iquitos, Peru, visiting indigenous communities along the Amazon River basin. We worked alongside local doctors to screen for malnutrition and treat patients who don't have regular access to care.

What makes malnutrition so dangerous here is distance. When the nearest clinic is a day's boat ride away, something treatable can turn deadly fast.

We screened and treated over 800 people. But the bigger goal was making sure the care outlasts our visit, so we spent time training local caregivers to keep it going.

This was our first trip to Iquitos and it won't be our last. More to come this week.
