Resilient Sisterhood Project

Resilient Sisterhood Project RSP is a window into women's reproductive health. We believe that good health is a social benefit, and that poor health is a social drain.

Our mission is to educate and empower women of African descent regarding common but rarely discussed diseases of the reproductive system that disproportionately affect them. As an organization, we approach diseases of the female reproductive system and their associated issues through a cultural and social justice lens, because we believe that poor knowledge of reproductive health is primarily related to health, racial, and socioeconomic disparities. Please join us on October 23rd at 2PM to have a conversation over Zoom about COVID-19 vaccine trials. As I'm sure you have seen on most media outlets there is a very real fear about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Just recently the New York Times published an article titled, "I Won't Be Used as a Guinea Pig For White People". We felt it very necessary to bring the community together to have an open conversation about the complex reasons behind many communities' fear of the COVID-19 vaccine, especially as our communities have suffered from a disproportionate amount of COVID-19 related illnesses.

We are honored to have Professor Susan Reverby and Dr. Stephen Thomas to discuss the history of media mistrust and give clear and accessible examples of the ways we can improve COVID-19 related health inequities in communities of color.

"A nurse at a Georgia Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility is accusing the detention center of allowing an unusual number of hysterectomies to be performed on immigrants detained there, often without their consent." We invite you to read more below.

"I've had several inmates tell me ... they've had hysterectomies and they don't know why they went or why they're going," the nurse Dawn Wooten said.

This week is black breastfeeding week! We are highlighting the voices of black moms who are all too often left out of the conversation.

Being a new mom can feel really overwhelming to anyone. But for women of color, there’s a whole other level of stress that stems from systemic racism in our society—and more specifically, in our healthcare system.
