Samvād

Samvād Samvād invites critical discussion on aesthetic values and artistic goals, and provides an inclusive space for artists who seek a creative community.

Samvād is a forum for professional artists and committed practitioners of classical Indian dance and music in the Greater Boston area to meet and interact in an informal environment. Samvād aims to create educational space for artist communities to come together to converse, evaluate and reflect outside of the framework of collaboration for performances. While sharing of one's creative process is encouraged, Samvād is not a platform for formal presentations and performances.

Last weekend, the classical dance community in Greater Boston had the extraordinary opportunity to study abhinaya with the masterful performer, eminent Mohiniyattam dancer, Dr. Neena Prasad. To most students who attended her spellbinding performance at the previous night, the masterclass felt like an extension of the performance experience, with added interaction and opportunity for feedback. Students learned about effective use of gaze, practical exercises to improve eye control, guidance on developing thought processes for poetic expansion of ideas, the importance of observation, focus and spontaneity in character development among many other insights. It was a truly enriching and eye-opening experience for all participants. Many thanks to the council for enabling this rare and unique experience that allowed us to learn from a true master in our field of dance!
Thank you to our fiscal sponsor for their unwavering support and to for the welcoming space. Video by

Samvād is pleased to announce a two-session masterclass in abhinaya by eminent Mohiniyattam artiste, Dr. Neena Prasad. Open to advanced-level dancers of ALL classical Indian dance styles, this is a rare opportunity to learn tools and techniques from a master, that you can take back to your practice. 6+ years of training in any classical dance form is required for participation.
Dr. Prasad will lead participants through excerpts from two or three different compositions, as tools to explore abhinaya - not merely as a means for observable storytelling but as a way to feel and embody various emotional textures and subtleties. Going beyond enacting or performing a character, this class will help dancers develop their own methods for cultivating presence and a deeper investigation of emotion through their dancing body that is genuine, authentic and reflective of their own lived experiences.
Limited seats! Register now to book your spot. Limited discounted seats available for Students/EBT/WIC cardholders. You may be required to show your student ID at check-in.
