WE DID IT! BronxGiving reached its first $100 goal! 🧡🎉

Not too long ago, I was honestly considering postponing this event because we had not received any donations. Today, I’m feeling grateful because the community showed up.

We received a $30 donation and a $26 donation, bringing us to $106 raised so far!

Thank you to every person who donated, shared a post, tagged a business, or sent words of encouragement. You reminded me why I cannot give up on this vision.

Our next goal is $250. Every $5, $10, share, and connection brings us closer to creating a beautiful Thanksgiving gala experience for 200 Bronx and NYC families.

Bronx and NYC community, I need your help.

I’m Bri, a mom, educator, and founder of Da People’s Assembly NYC. I’m working to create a beautiful Thanksgiving gala experience for 200 families, but I need help making the right connections.

This is what community support looks like in the Bronx.

At Love Day 2026, Da People’s Assembly NYC distributed 389 bookbags, 400+ meals, and 400+ pantry items to local children and families.

Now our Bronx nonprofit is preparing for BronxGiving, a Thanksgiving gala experience serving 200 NYC families with dinner, groceries, portraits, activities, and joy.

I know it may feel early, but November will be here before we know it, and feeding 200 families takes real planning, real support, and a whole village.

I’m Bri, the founder of Da People’s Assembly NYC, a Black-led grassroots nonprofit serving Bronx and NYC families. For our Third Annual BronxGiving Family Gala, we want families to dress up, sit down for a Thanksgiving dinner, take family portraits, enjoy activities, and leave with groceries for home.

This is about more than giving out food. It is about creating a beautiful, dignified experience where families feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

A lot of new people found me through yesterday’s hearing, so let me properly introduce myself.

I’m Bri. I’m an educator, community advocate, and founder of Da People’s Assembly NYC. I speak up, but I also put in the work.

BronxGiving will create a Thanksgiving gala experience for 200 families. Our Cotillion Club at Earl Monroe will give juniors and seniors leadership, etiquette, service, and cultural experiences. I am also making sure my high school students have the supplies they need to succeed.

Today, the Bronx was on the record.
I testified before the NYC Council on the Sojourner Truth–Mapes Rezoning and made one thing clear:
You cannot ask for MORE while what you already have is still BROKEN.
Our communities are tired of promises without accountability.
I spoke directly to Phipps.
I spoke directly to City Council.
And I reminded everyone listening that the people who actually live in these neighborhoods deserve a real voice in what happens next.
Now the question is simple:
Will our elected officials stand with the constituents who elected them, or will they stand with developers?
The Bronx is watching.

PHIPPS TENANTS, THIS IS YOUR MOMENT TO SHOW UP.

Tomorrow, September 9, the Sojourner Truth–Mapes Rezoning goes before the NYC Council Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises.

And every elected official involved in housing and land use needs to hear this clearly:

LISTEN TO THE CONSTITUENTS. NOT JUST THE DEVELOPERS.

Some City Council members may be serving their final term, and that is exactly why this vote matters. Legacy matters.

Do you really want to be remembered for siding with a management or landlord company facing active lawsuits, repeated 311 complaints, and reported violations while tenants are telling you directly what they are experiencing?

What does that say about how seriously you take the Bronx?

This is bigger than one rezoning. This is about accountability, tenant voices, and whether our elected officials are actually listening to the people who live here.

This is really a full-circle moment for me. On September 26, I’ll be speaking at the 5th Annual Bronx Summit!

To go from attending the Summit to now being selected as a panelist is really dope. I’m grateful for the opportunity and for everyone who continues to support the work I do in the Bronx.
