The North American Antiepileptic Drug (AED) Pregnancy Registry is studying the effects of anticonvulsant medications in pregnancy. It was established in 1997 for pregnant women in the United States and Canada at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. It is the first hospital-based registry established to determine the safety of seizure medications that can be taken by women during pregn

ancy. We are very grateful to the 10,200 women who have enrolled so far. Our studies involve phone interviews with participating patients. No needles, no medications, and no changes to a woman's routine are required. The information they provide during the course of their pregnancy provides future support to women diagnosed with epilepsy, mood disorder or chronic pain.

Our participants say it best: ” Before getting pregnant I used the Registry’s research to help me choose the best drug to transition to for me and my family… I’m so glad I participated to help women in the same situation I was. Our baby boy is happy and healthy and we couldn’t ask for anything else.”

The need for prescription drugs doesn’t end once you become pregnant. Our registry strives to understand which are OK to take while pregnant.

Your participation can help.

Our data gets better with every enrollment. If you have participated in the past and are pregnant again we would love to enroll you a second, or third…or seventh (for real) time. You can enroll at any time during your pregnancy. It’s never too late.

We need controls too. If you have friends or relatives who are pregnant we would love for them to participate also.

A few phone interviews is all it takes. Learn more: www.aedpregnancyregistry.org
