We’re taking over the Boston Public Library to celebrate Black Trans Boston. We need you there. 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️
On Thursday, October 29, we’re gathering for Oral History Live: Black Trans Boston, Q***r History Boston’s flagship event for LGBTQ+ History Month. We want to fill the Boston Public Library’s largest auditorium with people to celebrate Black trans lives as they are here, with us, with stories to share.
We will hear from a panel of Black trans activists, movers, shakers, and makers: Justice Roe Williams, Rev. Louis J. Mitchell, Teasha Purdy, and Chastity Bowick-Hardgers; Moderated by Tre’Andre Carmel Valentine

Why this matters:
Our history is alive because we are alive. Too often, Black trans history has been erased, overlooked, or told by other people. This night is about hearing directly from those who have lived, built, loved, organized, and transformed community here in Boston.
We’ll remember those who came before us, honor those carrying the work now, and imagine what we’re building for those to come. What gets remembered is what people show up for. A packed room is how we say, out loud and in public, that Black trans Boston is part of the record and will stay there.
Here’s how you can help:
- Come. Your presence is the whole point.
- Bring your people. Friends, family, chosen family, coworkers, your whole group chat.
- Bring your org. Tell your staff, your board, your volunteers, your members.
- Share it everywhere. Post the sign-up link, forward this email, and tell anyone who should be in that room.
