His name is 1379.

Not Charlie. Not Teddy. Not Lucky.

1379.

That is the number assigned to this little dog when he entered animal control a year ago.

For an entire year, he has lived there. Waiting. Watching people come and go. Nobody came for him. Nobody gave him a name. Nobody offered him a home.

And now his time is up.

Animal control needs to make room for more dogs, so 1379 is scheduled to be released back onto the streets in just one week.

He is only 20 pounds. A little dog who has already spent a year of his life behind bars, and now he is about to lose even the small amount of safety those walls provided.

I keep looking at his picture and thinking how terribly unfair this is.

He doesn't know that he is number 1379. He doesn't know that nobody wants him. He doesn't know that in a week, someone may simply open the gate and send him away.
He will just find himself outside, alone, with nowhere to go.

We have a chance to change that.

We can get him abroad, where he will have a real chance of finding a family. A home. Someone who will give him a name and call him by it for the rest of his life.

But we need to raise $450 to get him there.

That's all that stands between this little dog and the streets.

There are so many dogs in need, and every day brings another heartbreaking story. I wish we could save every dog facing this kind of future. We can't. But right now, there is one little dog in front of us, and we have a chance to save him.

Please, don't let this little one become just another number that everyone forgets.

He has one week. We need $450. And he needs people who care whether he lives on the streets or gets a chance to be loved.

Please help us get 1379 out. ❤️

And maybe, very soon, we can tell you his real name.

We thought you might like to see a few little moments from Aspen’s everyday life. ❤️

She wanted to let you all know that she has declined to participate in all the worrying. 😄
While the humans discuss oncologists, surgeries, and what comes next, Aspen is busy with more important things: wrestling pillows with Lu, taking walks, hanging out with cats, and enjoying her life.

Apparently, Aspen Airlines may be delayed, but Aspen’s life is right on schedule. ❤️

Aspen Airlines is delayed again. ✈️❤️

Aspen visited an oncologist yesterday after the tumor removed in August came back as malignant.
The good news is that Aspen feels great. Her appetite is also doing exceptionally well. Aspen is prepared to eat her dinner, your dinner, and everybody else’s dinner. 😄 No other masses were found, and her lymph nodes are not enlarged. The oncologist, however, recommends another, more extensive surgery to remove additional mammary tissue and the regional lymph node for testing.

And now we are back to agonizing over what to do.
Aspen has already been through so many surgeries and so much anesthesia. We don’t want to put her through another operation unnecessarily. But this is cancer, and we don’t want to take chances with that either.
So for now, Aspen Airlines remains grounded while we gather more information and figure out the best next step for our girl. ❤️

Lu is officially back to being Lu. 😄

For those who don't know him, meet Lu: former abandoned puppy, professional sweetheart, and part-time comedian.

He was left near our volunteer’s home as a tiny puppy. We took him in and gave him a safe place to grow. And grow he did - into this incredibly sweet, affectionate young dog.
He loves people. He loves being included. He is genuinely delighted to be part of life.

His resume highlights include:

• Certified expert at making new best friends
• Senior Supervisor for all outdoor activities
• Part-time instructor in questionable digging techniques
• Fully recovered from his neuter surgery (after a brief period of feeling personally betrayed by all of us 😄)

Now, Mr. Lu is ready for his biggest career move yet: an adoption opportunity in Germany! 🇩🇪
Europe has officially reviewed his qualifications, and the feedback is unanimous. 😄 We just need to help him make the trip.
His transport costs $700—the final step standing between Lu and his new life.

If you’d like to invest in the international expansion of Lu Industries, any contribution brings him one step closer to home. ❤️
Someone once left Lu behind. Together, we can help him get where he was always meant to go next.

UMKA UPDATE ❤️

The X-rays were taken about a week and a half ago, shortly after Umka came to us.
I wish they looked better.
They show significant post-traumatic changes in several bones and joints. Some of his fractures healed with deformity, and his right elbow has already developed serious changes from the original injury and everything that followed.
There is significant bone callus and remodeling where his body has been trying to heal.
Umka is still such a young dog, but his skeleton has already been through an enormous amount of trauma.

Unfortunately, the environment after his surgeries was not what he needed to properly get back on his paws. He spent far too much time confined, without the consistent movement and rehabilitation his body needed.

So now we have a very fragile boy on our hands.
We are taking things slowly. Umka is on joint-support medication and pain relief, and we are trying to give him safe movement while we learn what his body can handle.
But for the past two days, Umka has stopped putting weight on his right front leg.
That worries us because his previous X-rays already showed significant post-traumatic changes in that right elbow.

So we are going back for another set of X-rays to see what has changed and make sure there isn’t a new injury or another complication.

A lot of valuable recovery time was lost before Umka came to us.
We cannot get that time back. But we can do everything possible with the time we have now.
And that is our job with Umka: to protect what he has, strengthen what we can, manage his pain, and give this very young dog the best chance possible to stay on his paws.

If you can help us with Umka and the next dog who needs us, please consider becoming a monthly supporter. Even a small recurring gift helps us keep going when emergencies come one after another. ❤️

If you’ve ever wondered what a shelter dog dreams about, an 11-year-old member of our little team just mapped it out for us. ❤️

He’s been helping us out behind the scenes—doing photo edits, clipping videos, and learn what goes on behind all those posts you see here.. But recently, he sketched an idea on paper and turned it into this digital comic.

This is what the dream of every shelter dog looks like through the eyes of an 11-year-old.
Happiness is pretty straightforward: family, love, fun outings, and hot dogs. As it turns out, a shelter dog's wish really isn't so different.
Even the best shelter in the world was never meant to replace a home.
Thank you for helping us make that happen, one dog at a time. ❤️

His message couldn't be clearer:
Please adopt! 🐶❤️

We were only supposed to keep Umka for a little while. That was the plan.

Our volunteer was asked if she could take him temporarily while another place was being arranged for him.
Then she picked him up.
And once we saw Umka, the plan changed.

He is only about 14 months old. He grew up on the street, where local children knew him as a very sweet puppy with a tail that was always wagging.
Then he was hit by a car.
The driver actually stopped, took him to a clinic and paid for his surgery. Umka had several serious fractures, but he survived, and his prognosis was good. He was expected to recover and walk normally.

But he never really got that chance.
He stayed at the clinic for months, mostly in a small cage, without the kind of movement and rehabilitation he needed after surgery.
By the time our volunteer picked him up, Umka was painfully thin and limping badly.
We were told that eventually Umka could go back and live in an outside kennel.

We looked at him and knew we couldn't do that.
Not after months in a clinic cage.

So Umka is staying with us.
Now we are starting from the beginning with new X-rays and an orthopedic specialist to find out what happened with his legs and what can still be corrected.
He may need another surgery. He will definitely need rehabilitation.
For now, we just want to give him the chance he should have had after that first surgery: to heal properly, get stronger and hopefully walk without pain.

If you can help us with Umka's X-rays, orthopedic evaluation and treatment, we would be very grateful. ❤️
And please share him. This little guy went through a lot.

This makes me ridiculously happy. ❤️
WE CAUGHT HIM. 😂

C**t is drinking water. By himself. From his bowl.
For weeks, he simply didn't understand what to do with water. We had to give it to him by syringe and keep him hydrated with fluids.
And now look at him.
We don't know what else his brain may figure out again with time. There are still many things that aren't normal.
But today we're ridiculously happy about a bowl of water. ❤️

Our little warrior has been temporarily taken out of service. 😄

Lui grew up, and it was time for that very unfortunate part of becoming an adult: he was neutered.

The surgery went well. Lui, however, is not impressed.

He is currently offended by the entire world and behaving as though something truly unspeakable has happened to him.

Naturally, everyone around him is treating him like a very sick little baby. He is being cuddled, comforted, fussed over, and allowed to feel extremely sorry for himself.

Our usual little firecracker is unusually quiet for the moment.

Please don’t worry. He is fine.

But please don’t tell Lui that. ❤️
