Did you know? According to the Keep America Beautiful National Litter Study, plastic remains the largest litter category, with more than 15 billion pieces found across the United States.
Because plastic is lightweight and slow to break down, it can easily be carried by wind and stormwater into rivers, lakes, and coastal areas, where it poses a threat to wildlife and ecosystems. Items like food wrappers, bottles, bottle caps, straws, and plastic bags are among the most common forms of plastic litter.
The good news is that small actions make a big difference. By reducing single-use plastics, recycling when possible, and disposing of waste properly, each of us can help keep plastic out of our environment and protect the places we all enjoy.
Together, we can help reduce plastic pollution and keep our communities cleaner for generations to come.
