Back to School! 🏫 When engineers help build schools, they also build community.

Schools are large, complex structures. In addition to supporting students and staff all day, these buildings often need to function as shelters in case of disasters and as community for theater, sporting events, and public meetings.

This , we want to give a big shoutout to the IBTS engineers who have provided construction inspection and plan review services for 28 Baltimore City Public Schools built or substantially renovated since 2015, including elementary, middle, and high schools under the Maryland Stadium Authority's 21st Century Schools Building Plan.

Their work ensures school facilities perform safely and reliably for everyone.

When Panasonic set out to build a 5.5 million-square-foot plant in the City of De Soto, Kansas, safety and compliance were top priorities. That’s where IBTS’ expert engineers come in.

Our team tackled rigorous structural plan reviews for the City, swiftly navigating complex codes and regulations while working closely with Turner-Yates, a joint venture of Turner Construction Company and Yates Construction, to keep the project on schedule.

Bringing a project of this scale to life takes collaboration, expertise, and commitment from everyone involved. We’re proud to be part of a great team in De Soto.

Happy Engineers Week! 🎉Did you know IBTS was founded by engineers? From day one, our work has been driven by the desire to strengthen the communities in which we live.

by ensuring the structures we use every day are safe, functional, and resilient. To show what’s possible, we’re excited to spotlight three projects this week that IBTS engineers helped make happen.

"The beauty of engineering is how it works behind the scenes,” said IBTS President Ashok Goswami. “Engineers are the ones thinking about safety and design, ensuring everything from homes to hospitals to stadiums is built to last.”

“The goal,” he added, “is for people to not have to worry, but instead just enjoy where they live and work."

Strong communities are built on collaboration, resilience, and service. Black history is filled with stories of individuals and organizations coming together to strengthen their neighborhoods, create opportunities, and support one another. This month, we reflect on the lasting contributions of Black leaders, past and present, whose efforts continue to shape and uplift communities across the country. Their dedication inspires us as we work to serve and support the communities we partner with every day.

We’re excited to share that the City of Central in Louisiana has achieved a Class 5 rating from FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System (CRS), enabling homeowners and businesses to receive a 25% reduction in their flood insurance premiums while enhancing community safety and strengthening property protections.

The CRS is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management practices that exceed minimum requirements. This class improvement will tie Central for the best CRS rating in the state, joining Jefferson Parish and the City of Mandeville as CRS Class 5 communities in Louisiana.

Since 2011, Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) has provided municipal services for Central, including leading efforts to improve its CRS rating.
