Want to learn how to tie flys? Our club has some very experienced fly-tying enthusiasts who are willing to teach you “how.” Here we see a “fly tying” contest. On the weekend of January 28-29, several members of the Northwest Louisiana Fly Fishers braved the winter weather to enjoy some of the best fly fishing in the region at Lake Greeson in Arkansas. The event was called "The Frozen Chosen" for obvious reasons. However, the weather that weekend was actually very mild and afforded those who braved it a wonderful time of fellowship and awarded them with a bountiful supply of fish. These are the types of events the Northwest Louisiana Fly Fishers, group enjoys. If you are looking to learn a new hobby, or if you are a veteran angler, come join the fun. The group meets at the Red River Wildlife Refuge on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00. All are welcome.

I recently had to travel to Lafayette. On my trip down south there is a beautiful pond just south of Ville Platte. It is at the rest area on I49. When you exit the interstate just before you go into they rest area take a right turn and there is a short little frontage road that leads to this beautiful lake. When I have time, I stop there and fish when I’m traveling on I 49. I almost always catch some bream and bass. I’m not fishing for whoppers. Usually I use my Tenkara rod. On this particular trip I used my Tenkara and a 1/64 jig. I caught A fish about every third cast. It’s a great way to get out and stretch your legs when you’re traveling. One day I want to go down there with my kayak and do some serious fishing in that lake. Has anyone ever done that? - Scott Irwin

I was recently in Breaux Bridge and stayed at a place called bayou cabins. Right behind these cabins is Bayou Teche. On November 13 the water was beautiful in this bayou. The current was very slow. There are lots of areas where you can launch kayak.. I caught a few breams and bass during 60 minutes of fishing. I used my Tenkara Rod with my little Wh**ey jig. - Scott Irwin
