Hats, some staid, some frivolous, have been harbingers of spring for generations of our grandmothers. Spring finery and accessories, including hat pins, served the season from the often drear winter. The oldest shown is a fine horsehair number from the 1870s; the most recent ones shown through the 1970s.
In pride of place is a NY studio photo of Louisa Lassonde wearing a flamingo-pink, ostrich-feather chapeau. Louisa and famed painter Omer Lassonde founded and ran the NH Art Association on Boscawen Plain for many years.
