The Warrick County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent phone calls in which scammers may falsely claim to be calling from a bank’s fraud department. In some cases, these calls may appear to come from a legitimate bank phone number due to caller ID spoofing.

These callers may attempt to create a sense of urgency and ask for sensitive personal or financial information. The Sheriff’s Office wants to emphasize that legitimate financial institutions will never ask customers to share passwords, PINs, full card numbers, or one-time security codes over the phone or via text.
To help protect yourself and your loved ones, please keep the following safety tips in mind:
• Never share personal or financial information with unsolicited callers.
• Be cautious of calls that pressure you to act quickly or threaten account closure.
• If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact your bank directly using the phone number listed on your card, statement, or official website.
• Report suspicious activity to your bank as soon as possible.
• Always be suspicious if the caller tells you not to share their request with anyone else.

While banks and financial institutions continuously update security measures and systems, there is no substitute for being vigilant. Contact your financial institution and alert your family and friends of such attempts. If you have been a victim of fraud and have lost money or disclosed account information, contact your financial institution and your local law enforcement.

Visit https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ for additional resources and to report fraud to the Federal Trade Commission.

Warrick County is under a Travel Warning

Due to severe winter weather conditions. Roadways are hazardous, and travel is restricted to emergency personnel only. Residents are strongly urged to remain off the roads to ensure public safety and allow emergency crews to respond effectively.

What This Travel Warning Means During a Winter Storm:

Snow, ice, or freezing conditions have made roads dangerous or impassable

Only emergency vehicles (police, fire, EMS, EMA and essential response) should be traveling

Non-essential travel increases the risk of accidents and delays emergency response

Staying off the roads helps plow crews and first responders do their jobs safely

If you don’t have an emergency, stay home until conditions improve. Thank you, and stay safe and warm.

❄️ WINTER WEATHER ALERT: STAY SAFE, WARRICK COUNTY ❄️
With the winter storm heading our way, your officers at the Warrick County FOP want to make sure everyone stays safe and off the radar of our emergency crews.

🚔 Our brothers and sisters in law enforcement will be out in the elements 24/7, but we need your help to keep the roads clear and the community safe. Before the snow and ice settle in, please keep these tips in mind:

🚗 If You MUST Be on the Roads:
Clear it off: Don’t be "that" driver with a 2-inch porthole. Clear all snow and ice from your windows, lights, and roof.
Increase distance: Stopping distances can be 10x longer on ice. Give yourself and the car in front of you plenty of room.
Steady as she goes: Avoid sudden braking or acceleration. If you start to skid, stay calm and steer into it.
Move over for plows & responders: Give INDOT and emergency vehicles the room they need to work.

🏠 At Home & In Your Neighborhood:
Check on neighbors: Take a moment to check in on the elderly or those living alone. A quick phone call or knock can save a life.
Bring them in: If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pets. Bring them inside! 🐾
Shovel smart: Take frequent breaks while clearing snow to avoid overexertion.
Emergency Kit: Make sure you have blankets, flashlights, and extra batteries in case of power outages.

⚠️ A Friendly Reminder:
Please do NOT call 911 for road conditions or weather updates. We need to keep those lines open for life-threatening emergencies. Check local news or the Indiana Travel Advisory map for updates.
Stay warm, stay safe, and look out for one another!
