Special Olympics Indiana Polar Plunge - Boonville

Special Olympics Indiana Polar Plunge - Boonville The Boonville Plunge supports athletes in Area 10 (SW Indiana). The Polar Plunge is the signature Special Olympics Indiana Fundraiser.

Since its inception, Hoosiers have raised more than $10.4 million, making the Polar Plunge the largest fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics in the state. Individuals and groups jump into the frigid and icy waters of Indiana, soliciting donations from Family and Friends - often dressing up to make this "bucket list" activity as memorable as possible. Come join us for this memorable 25th ye

ar of the Polar Plunge. This is our 20th year hosting the Plunge at Scales Lake in Boonville. Plungers across SW Indiana and even Kentucky take the plunge to raise money for our local programs in Special Olympics Indiana, Area 10. Anyone can Be Bold and Get Cold by plunging into the icy waters of Scales Lake on February 3, 2024.

We had a great day at the despite the cold. We want to give a BIG thanks to all the plungers, wonderful sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and staff of Special Olympics Indiana. And of course, the Boonville Fire Department for ALL the hard work they put into cutting the ice on Thursday, cutting and moving what formed Thursday night and Friday night. And providing the divers for the safety of our plungers. We couldn't have done it without all the hard work Scales Lake Park put into clearing the roadways, clearing the parking lots, and clearing/grooming the beach. Thank-you, thank-you! And a big thanks to the Warrick County Sheriff's Office for providing safety and our LETR torch runner. And thanks to St. Clement for providing their Social Hall for our Registration and After Splash Bash. Warrick County School Corporation provided the buses for our much needed shuttle service to the lake. We cannot forget those important porta-potties, supplied by Nix Sanitary Service. It all made for a safe and enjoyable plunge.

Our premiere media sponsors, 14 NEWS and 104FM WIKY provided us with our great emcees, Byron Douglas and DJB. Great coverage on the TV and Radio from both sponsors. And Eyewitness News WEHT WTVW provided great coverage on the day of the plunge! The Boonville Standard provided us with some pictures of the plunge also.

With the support of everyone listed above, we had 112 plungers and brought in over $44.000 to help support over 20,000 athletes across the State of Indiana train and compete at no cost to them.

Teams that competed: Old Guys, Perry County Plungers, Vanderburgh County APEX/Icebreakers, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office Jail Division, The Tenners, Ice Ice Baby, Warrick County Chill Seekers, ASA Delta Kappa Chapter, Posey County Tengo Frio, Castle Top, Knights of Columbus, RPI Physical Therapy, Free Hugs, Evansville Coke Cool Runnings (Coca-Cola Consilidated was a State sponsor). Plus all the individual plungers. THANK YOU!

Other important local partners that helped make this plunge a success:
Lincoln Land FOP, APEX Behavioral Services, Lutgring Bros, Inc., St. Clement Ladies Club, D&M Construction, The local chapter of teh Rainbow Girls, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, Alcoa Warrick Operations, Warrick Pathways Civil Construction Class, Knights of Columbus, Donut Bank, Culligan of Evansville, Stephen Libs Finer Chocolates, McAlister's North Greenriver Rd. Last but not least, the Polar Plunge Committee Members, including Special Olympics Indiana staff, helped make this all possible.

We hope to see everyone the first weekend in February next year!

Good luck to all plungers today! Costume contest will probably start around 11:45-12:00, so make sure plungers and spectators are at the lake on time. Remind plungers and spectators that they have to catch a shuttle from St. Clement.
