Arts camp might start a little chaotic, but it always comes together just in time for graduation. đŸŽšđŸŽ”

We always love watching our children practice—dancing, singing, musical instruments, you name it—because they approach new challenges with so much energy and enthusiasm. They learn super fast, too, and surpass our expectations time and time again!

It’s a reminder that children can achieve amazing things; all you need to give them is the opportunity to learn and grow.

This is all made possible by you and your continuous support. Thank you. đŸ©”

About us: At Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, we run a unique poverty-alleviation program that supports nearly 500 children from families earning $3-$5 a day across our two campuses in Southern India. Our mission is simple: To help our children end the cycle of poverty in one generation by providing them with full support—round-the-clock care, five fresh organic meals a day, comprehensive medical care, and, most importantly, a world-class education.

Ask a classroom full of children what they want to be when they grow up, and you'll hear plenty of answers like Spider-Man, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

At first, it's easy to think it's because the children want fame or like the costumes. But we realized it's because they want to help the people they love.

Many of our children grow up watching their parents struggle to survive day by day. They see and feel the hardship, but they don't know how to make life easier for their families. The best solution they can think of? Becoming superheroes!

One day, they'll realize that superpowers aren't real, but that their desire to help others is.

That's why we work to give our children the education, skills, and opportunities they need to create a different future—for themselves, their families, and the communities they love.

While our children may never become superheroes, you can become one of theirs. When you support a child, you send them a powerful message that they matter, are loved, and belong.

Feel free to send us a message! We'd love to hear your story and see how we can support our children together.

You sit down with your cup of coffee, open your laptop, and you’re ready to start the day. You reach for a pen to write a note, and before you know it, your coffee is all over your keyboard.

Seconds later, you are face-to-face with the dreaded blue screen of death, and in an instant, you are cut off from the internet. Suddenly, you realize how much of your life depends on that little machine.

If you have been there, you know how it feels and how much harder life can be without a laptop, even for just a day. Now, imagine starting out in college without a laptop at all.

We don't want our graduates to feel stressed or scared about completing their assignments and classes without a laptop. We want them to feel confident and well-equipped from the very first day.

But for our children’s families, affording a laptop is simply impossible. When you only earn $3-5 a day, the price of a single laptop is often the equivalent of 6-8 months of income.

That is why we provide our graduates with laptops once they leave campus. It is one of the most practical ways we can help them thrive after graduating from Shanti Bhavan.

At Shanti Bhavan, every child belongs.

After losing both his parents, Lalitesh lived with his grandparents and uncles—a family that loved him, but had little time or attention to give.

When he first joined Shanti Bhavan last year, he was withdrawn and rarely spoke. However, with a lot of special attention, care, and support from our aunties and teachers, he has slowly begun to open up. It took a few months, but every month he is becoming more and more confident.

He discovered what he loves the most—to dance! We were thrilled to see him get up first to dance at Diwali. He wasn’t worried about whether or not his moves were correct. He just knew he was having a good time.

We're not just a school, we’re a family, we’re a sanctuary for every child. At Shanti Bhavan, every child belongs.

The campus is coming back to life after our summer school break. Our middle and high schoolers have returned just in time for arts camp! đŸŽšđŸŽ”

It’s one of our children's favorite times of the year, because they get to work with professionals on their favorite creative pursuits. This includes dance workshops to learn new movement styles, choral sessions to expand our school choir repertoire, instrumental sessions on piano, guitar, or drums, and creative expression through spoken word and creative writing.

We have an end goal in sight, though: Graduation. Our kids will take what they’ve learned during the 2-week camp and prepare graduation performances, including skits, solo or duet vocals, and other instrumental pieces for everyone to enjoy.

At camp, our kids have the opportunity to hone their skills, learn teamwork, and improve their self-confidence. But our ultimate goal? To have as much fun as possible before school officially starts!đŸ©”

We can't wait to share the final performances next week!

Some of our children were taught they were “less than” before they were even old enough to understand why.

For generations, they and their families have been excluded, mistreated, and denied basic dignity. Every cruel word and action sends the same message: you do not belong.

When children arrive at Shanti Bhavan, restoring that sense of worth becomes one of our first priorities. We work on it every single day:

đŸ©” Identity: We accept our children exactly as they are. We remind them that their past does not define them—their character, choices, and humanity do.
đŸ©” Inclusion: We make sure they feel they belong. Our children are included in conversations, celebrations, and responsibilities—even in small activities, like helping set the table for meals —reminders that they matter here.
đŸ©” Fairness: Every child is treated equally. The same rules apply to everyone.

Slowly over days and months, children who once avoided eye contact begin to speak with confidence. Children who feel invisible begin to feel seen. Children who were taught to shrink themselves begin to dream bigger.

Your support makes that possible, thank you!

Did you see the amazing news about 7 of our graduates being accepted into US colleges? The rest of their class is also preparing to go to Indian universities.

They are all so excited to leave for college, but that also means they will lose daily access to the technology they relied on at school. For families already struggling to meet basic needs, purchasing a dependable laptop is simply out of reach.

But having a laptop is not optional. You need it to attend classes, complete assignments, conduct research, apply for internships, and stay connected with professors and peers. Without their own laptop, they will struggle to thrive at school and establish themselves as young professionals.

Therefore, we need your help purchasing 17 laptops for our recent graduates and newest teachers.

Your gift today—no matter the amount—will help place reliable technology directly into the hands of students whose futures depend on it.

Thank you for continuing to invest in our students and in the future they are building for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Have you ever watched a toddler mimic the adults around them? 💛

They copy everything. The way you talk, laugh, and treat other people. That’s how children learn how they should engage with the world—by watching the people around them.

At Shanti Bhavan, we are deeply aware of how observant children are. While it’s important to talk about treating each other well, it’s even more important to show them what a supportive community looks and feels like in real life.

Older students spend time with their juniors. Teachers patiently explain subject matter. Aunties hold space for a child on a bad day. Our kitchen staff prepares warm meals from scratch every day.

This is how our children learn about reciprocity. This is how they learn that if you show up for others, others will show up for you.

If someone in your life needs a reminder that one person can change the world, send them this. đŸ©”

It only takes one person to make a difference. One donor. One volunteer. One person who shared a post and brought someone new into our community.

Think about it, if ten of you repost this today, thousands will see it. If ten thousand share this post, potentially millions of people will see it—giving them a chance to learn about our children and our mission.

Your network is more powerful than you think. And so is a child with a real chance at life. đŸ©”

Kiruba Shree was afraid of being on stage in front of crowds, and she used to shy away from sharing her thoughts and feelings. Instead of letting that hold her back, she decided to face it head-on.

She began presenting the school news during assembly. She pursued the science stream, even though the subject matter was intimidating. She showed up and tried again and again, despite some days being harder than others.

Today, she is one of the most confident children in her class. Did she become loud and outspoken all of a sudden? No. She is still herself—quiet, calm, and kind.

We often picture confidence as being outspoken—raising your hand first, stepping onto a stage without hesitation, or never seeming afraid. While that is confidence, in one sense of the word, the true meaning is actually much deeper.

‘Confidence’ comes from the Latin word ‘confidere,’ meaning ‘to trust fully.’ In our Leadership sessions, we remind children that confidence means trusting yourself—knowing you have the ability, curiosity, and discipline to face any challenge you choose to take on.

That is true confidence. đŸ©”

Last year, Kiruba Shree performed at the Shanti Bhavan 2 Inauguration. She was the only solo performer of the entire event. She sang in her mother tongue, Kannada, radiating her own quiet confidence.
