WHHC West Texas Aoudad Hunt
Date: February 20th-22nd, 2026
Location: Leakey, Texas

This past weekend in Leakey, Texas, donor support made it possible for combat-injured Heroes to step away from daily challenges and into an environment built around connection, purpose, and healing.

Through the combined efforts of WHHC and Retrievers for Warriors, Heroes were brought together in a shared experience that fostered camaraderie, confidence, and trust. Working alongside Terry Bland (Navy Veteran) and his team, the weekend became a powerful example of how collaboration within the veteran community amplifies impact. Every participating Hero successfully harvested an Aoudad and was able to take meat home, an achievement rooted in teamwork and renewed self-belief.

At Base camp, the focus shifted to restoration and connection. Heroes returned from the field to hot meals, a welcoming environment, and shared evenings under the Texas stars gathering around the fire, relaxing in the saltwater hot tub, and building bonds that extend well beyond the weekend. This experience was made possible through intentional preparation and care led by Theresa Houston (Army Veteran) who ensured Base camp was ready and supportive at every turn.

Additional donor generosity helped ensure long-term impact. Robert Moore (Air Force Veteran) volunteered his time to transport the Heroes trophies to a trusted taxidermist who provided a substantial discount allowing each Hero to leave with a lasting reminder of accomplishment and resilience.

Moments of quiet support mattered just as much. Throughout the weekend, Chapman the service dog provided calm, comfort, and grounding presence for Heroes when it was needed most.

This is why we do what we do, Heroes healing together, never alone.

Whitetail Deer Hunt at TB Wilderness Lodge
Dates: December 3rd-6th, 2025
Location: Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania
Heroes Served: 1

Details: This year, Wounded Hero Eric and his daughter joined us at the TB Wilderness Lodge in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, for a few days of hunting, laughter, and fellowship.

This event has been a WHHC tradition since 2012, and it’s always special to see familiar faces return year after year to make these moments unforgettable.

Eric and his daughter had an incredible time in the field and were able to harvest two does, providing plenty of meat for the winter at home. The joy, teamwork, and memories made in camp are thanks to the generous supporters who make it all possible.

From the Belinda family:
“We had a great time with Eric and his daughter and truly hope they can come back in the spring for the WHHC Turkey Hunt with another Hero to continue our friendship. This time together was much needed for all of us. Thank you for making this happen.”

Thank you for your continued support of our Mission!

Operation Phoenix is underway!

Terry Bland from Retrievers for Warriors has entrusted WHHC with finding the perfect Hero for Phoenix. A Hero who could benefit from having a companion to help with daily challenges and provide support in ways that make life a little easier, both in the field and at home base.

Phoenix will spend about a year in training, and then the selected Hero will travel to Texas to work with Terry and Phoenix, learning commands, building trust, and forming a lifelong bond. During the visit, they’ll also spend time in the duck blind with Terry, Matt, and a few other Heroes from RFW and WHHC before heading home together.

For anyone looking to support this Operation, you can find the donation QR Codes to Retrievers for Warriors (RFW) below on the flyer.

Please share this post to help Phoenix find her Hero!

WHHC Whitetail Deer Hunt at Cloverleaf Ranch
Date: November 19th-24th, 2025
Heroes Served: 5
Location: Tiskwilla, IL

Last week, WHHC had the incredible honor of sending five Heroes to the Cloverleaf Ranch for an unforgettable whitetail deer hunt.

The Heroes arrived safely in Illinois and were welcomed by WHHC staff members Jeff Kelley, Anthony Gray, Bernie Altman, and David Faville, along with our gracious hosts Franca Fassano and the Faville family, who have supported this event for three years

After the Heroes checked into their hotel rooms everyone gathered for a warm dinner and prepared for the days ahead. The following morning, the group traveled to Cloverleaf Ranch for a luncheon and awards ceremony. DNR Conservation Police Officer Brook Stanbary greeted the Heroes and presented their licenses and deer tags. Nearly forty supporters joined us, including donors from Whitetails Unlimited, the local VFW, and a generous individual who donated a motorhome to WHHC to support fundraising efforts. Representatives from the offices of Senator Tammy Duckworth and Illinois State Representative Dan Swanson delivered letters of appreciation, and Quilts of Valor, led by Terri Johnson, honored each Hero with a handmade quilt stitched with gratitude and respect.

After lunch, the Heroes headed to the range to check rifles and prepare for the hunt.
The days that followed were simply wondeful for the Heroes. Early mornings, cold weather, and long hours never slowed this group down. The camaraderie ran deep, the healing was real, and the success in the field reflected the determination and heart each Hero brought into this experience.

On the final evening, Andy Faville, owner of Cloverleaf Ranch, treated the group to a five-star steak dinner, a perfect ending to a week in camp built on connection, gratitude, and the healing power of the outdoors.

From all of us at WHHC, thank you to every supporter who made this event possible. And to our Heroes, thank you for giving us the honor of serving you!

WHHC Thermal Hog Hunt
Date: November 25th, 2025
Location: El Campo, TX
Heroes Served: 6

This Thanksgiving week, WHHC had the honor of hosting six Heroes for a nighttime thermal hog hunt. Each Hero was equipped with top-tier gear and guided through a safe, exciting night in the field. Once the blinds were filled, the hunt was on, and the energy in camp was unforgettable.

A few AAR's (After Action Review) from the Heroes who attended:

LaShonda, USMC: “Standing alongside our veterans in the quiet of the night, watching the deer move and sharing the calm, made these moments of connection and purpose unforgettable.”

Sergio, USMC: “Harvesting my first hog with my son, using thermal scopes, was a rush. The memories we made will last a lifetime. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”

Joe, US Army: “This hunt was amazing. I met outstanding people and felt a breath of fresh air I didn’t realize I needed. Thank you for all you do.”

These adventures aren’t just hunts; they are moments of connection, camaraderie, and healing. WHHC exists to give Heroes the chance to reset, enjoy the outdoors, and share time with those who understand their journey.

If you are a combat veteran looking for meaningful outdoor experiences, apply for an adventure and come join the WHHC Unit!

A huge thank you to Scott Speed (Speed Limit Outfitters) for making this incredible experience possible. Every moment of support helps create memories that heal. We truly appreciate the Speed Limit team. Thank you!

Details:
Each November, we’re blessed with the opportunity to send a few Wounded Heroes to Foreman, Arkansas for an incredible hunt hosted by the Southern Sportsmen Foundation. This is a trip we look forward to each year, and it never fails to deliver an unforgettable experience for our Heroes.

Mr. Mike Cranford and his team put in countless hours fundraising, preparing the property, and getting everything set up so each attendee is taken care of from start to finish. Their commitment shows in the way they run this event, and we’re grateful for everything they do.

We just wrapped up this years hunt and once again, our Heroes had an amazing time. What made this particular hunt special was that all four participants were women veterans. LaShonda Johnson represented WHHC proudly by planning, organizing, and helping these Heroes have the best time possible.

The Heroes had an incredible time, both in camp and out in the field. They spent the week connecting, laughing, and finding the kind of healing that only comes from shared stories and time outdoors. The Heroes were successful and got the exact experience they needed.

A huge thank you to Mr. Mike Cranford and the entire Southern Sportsmen’s team for everything they do to make this hunt possible. Your dedication directly impacts the healing of our Heroes, and we’re grateful for the heart you put into this event every single year.

We’re already looking forward to next years hunt, when our Heroes can get back to Arkansas and reconnect with the outdoors.

Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸

Texas Gator and Hog Hunt
Date: September 19th-20th, 2025
Heroes served: 2
Location: Beaumont, Texas

Details:

This past weekend, WHHC had the privilege of honoring two remarkable Heroes with an unforgettable Texas hog and gator hunt.

Army Combat Purple Heart Amputee Robert Engelbrecht and Army Combat Veteran Byron Hunter joined us for a weekend filled with healing, camaraderie, and adventure.

The connection for this hunt began at the Hunters Extravaganza in Houston, Texas, where Willie Nelson, a double Purple Heart recipient, Combat Veteran, and passionate outdoorsman visited the WHHC booth. During that conversation, he extended an invitation to host WHHC Heroes for a hog and gator hunt in Beaumont, Texas. This weekend, he delivered on that promise in extraordinary fashion!

From late-night hog hunts to the thrill of pulling in gators, the experience offered unforgettable moments. Marine Veteran staff member LaShonda Johnson was there to witness the excitement, camaraderie, and bonds of brotherhood throughout the trip.

The adventure concluded at Porter’s Wild Game & Alligator Farm, where both Heroes were welcomed to process their gator and surprised with gifted head mounts from owner Mr. Casey.

WHHC is deeply grateful to Willie Nelson and his outstanding crew for their generosity and commitment to creating such a meaningful and memorable weekend for our Heroes. Special thanks also to Porter’s Wild Game & Alligator Farm for their incredible support.

This was a powerful weekend of healing, honor, and brotherhood!
