Little Librarians Program Begins Friday

The Breathitt County Public Library announced on Wednesday the start of a new program for the Summer of 2026.

The Little Librarians program will begin taking applications on Friday, June 12, for anyone ten and under who would like to learn more about the library and our community.

The Little Librarians Program will allow Breathitt County residents to volunteer for an hour at the Breathitt County Public Library to learn about the library's services and its role in the community.
Applicants will shelve books, talk to patrons, assist with programming, tour the Heritage Center, and perform other activities.

Librarians will receive special recognition, have their photo posted on the library's social media pages (if they choose), and receive special gifts for their service.

Stop by the library beginning Friday to pick up an application to participate or to learn more about the new program.

We are sharing the following research opportunity for families with children ages 3-5.

A research group at Harvard University is conducting a study about how everyday storytelling and book reading support young children’s language development. Families who choose to participate will complete a short caregiver survey and record brief videos of shared storybook reading and storytelling activities at home.

Participation involves:
A short parent survey (10 minutes)
Recording brief videos of reading a book and telling stories with your child
Approximately 20-30 minutes total
Families who participate will receive:
$25 compensation
A children’s book as a thank you!

Today, Tigers enjoyed a special magic presentation sponsored by Breathitt County ASAP. The presentation began with guest speaker, retired teacher and Breathitt County Agency For Substance Policy Chairperson , Mrs. Karen Griffith. She spoke to the students about the ASAP organization and drug prevention. Magician, Travis Combs then provided Tigers with a variety of magical scenarios incorporating addiction and prevention. The students enjoyed the informative, entertaining performance. Also included are Tigers in their Operation UNITE t-shirts. A special thank you to Breathitt County ASAP, Mrs. Karen Griffith, Mr. Travis Combs, and Operation UNITE. It was a great day to be a HT Tiger.
