🎉Scholarship Spotlight: Jordyn Crosman 🎉

This week, we are proud to highlight Jordyn Crosman, daughter of Paul Crosman. Jordyn is currently a senior at Gilbert High School and plans to attend Iowa Central Community College this fall with a major in Ag Engineering and a minor in Ag Business. Jordyn is currently involved in FFA, National Honor Society, 4-H, Key Club, volleyball, track, church youth group, and much more! Jordyn has held many leadership positions, by being the basketball team captain, FFA officer (Parliamentarian and Secretary), and even helping coach middle school basketball travel teams. She has received many achievements and accomplishments, including many sports records and awards, FFA Team Player, Most Kind, and Workhorse award, as well as FFA Greenhand degree, Chapter FFA degree, and many 4-H county fair awards and championships. When not busy with school, you can find Jordyn volunteering in her community or working as a cattle and hog animal caretaker and farmhand. When asking Jordyn why agriculture is important to her and her family, she notes “Agriculture is important to my family and I because we have a small family farm. We have cattle and a crop farm - corn and soybeans. Although we do not farm a lot, we have a passion for it and put in a lot of work all year around. Both of my parents also have other full-time jobs, so I have to step up a lot on our family farm. It has taught me so many things like having responsibility and having a good work ethic. We find it very important to keep our family farm running.”
Congratulations, Jordyn!

🎉Scholarship Spotlight: Luke Muench 🎉

Boone County Farm Bureau is excited to announce one of its six applicant winners, Luke Muench. Luke, son of Holly and Mark Muench, is a senior at Ogden High School and plans to attend Kirkwood Community College this fall. He plans to major in Precision Agriculture and minor in Crop Science. Luke stays busy with multiple extracurricular activities, including FFA and 4H, while holding many high roles throughout high school of being the FFA President, Sentinel, 4H President, FFA Iowa State Fair usher leadership team, and 4H County Council Team. He has also received the FFA Rising Sun character award, FFA outstanding sophomore award, and DMACC welding certificate of specialization. When asking Luke why agriculture is important to him, he mentions “To say agriculture is in my blood would be an understatement. I currently live off a fifth-generation farm, and I will be the sixth generation. Before this farm and my family traces back to farmers from Illinois, and back to farmers in Germany, and the same story on my mother’s side. I wouldn’t describe agriculture as important to me, and my family because it is all we know, it is vital to us, or mandatory.” Congratulations Luke!

Levi stays busy with multiple extracurricular activities, including FFA, basketball, baseball, National Honor Society, and Leadership Group. When asking Levi why agriculture is important to him, he mentions “Agriculture is important to my family and me because of the farm is where I grew up, and most of the critical thinking I learned was there. I still watch and ask my dad questions because there’s always more to learn. I wasn’t just raised on a farm, though. My great-grandfather started our small C-Corp and passed it down through the generations to today. It is important to us to continue what my great grandfather started, and, more specifically, I cherish my time on the farm because it has given me opportunities to grow and learn.”

Congratulations, Levi!

Does your family potentially have a Century Farm (100+years old) or Heritage Farm (150+years old)? 🧐

Every year, IDALS and Iowa Farm Bureau recognize Iowa's long tradition of family farming by recognizing some of our farm operations. Farms that have been held in the same family for over 100 years are celebrated as Century Farms, and farms that have been in the family for over 150 years are celebrated as Heritage Farms. Each farm is awarded a certificate by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and a marker to post on the farm by Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. These awards are given out at the Iowa State Fair in August.

You can download the applications for Century and Heritage Farm awards from the IDALS website, at this link: https://iowaagriculture.gov/century-and-heritage-farm-program

Applications must be notarized and postmarked by June 1 of the application year. For Century and Heritage Farm program questions, contact Kelly Reece at 515-281-3645 or [email protected].
