Boone and Blowing Rock will continue to see intense development pressure. As our greenway system comes online in the next 10 years, with the Middle Fork Greenway being completed -and our Cross Boone Connector linking it to downtown Town of Boone North Carolina, we’ll see more ideas like this surface.

Completed greenway systems spur infill redevelopment, raise property values, raise tax revenue, and raise sales for businesses adjacent.

We've had a lot of firsts. This is the biggest first of all since our founding in 2018!

Last month, Town of Boone North Carolina accepted the plan Harmony Lanes set in motion in 2019 to connect the existing Boone Greenway system to the under-construction Middle Fork Greenway, Appalachian State University campus, and downtown Boone. Over the past 6 years we pestered everyone we could, repeatedly. We helped the town get a grant to study our proposal and now they're going to build it! This project will create an urban multi-modal path all the way from the west end of Howard Street (once that project is completed) to the existing Boone Greenway connection at Wal Mart/Leola Street. For this section, the Cross Boone Connector, the overall segment is from The ASU convocation center, down Faculty St. and Greenway Road to the existing greenway. Click through to the article for a map.

They said it couldn't be done, but it will be!

Thanks to a lot of great people who have worked on this. We are tagging several, please tag yourself or others who helped if we missed them!

Wow, we are really encouraged by the draft report released as part of the Boone Next project!

It looks like the community input told the Town of Boone North Carolina leaders the same thing we've been hearing/passing on for years. Many of our citizens want bikeable/walkable options like a connected greenway system to cut down on how much they need to use cars, since as the report puts it, Boone is a small town with medium-sized city traffic problems. We're excited for the momentum this will give to Harmony Lanes' efforts.

This project is intended to guide Boone's leadership for the next 15 years on many aspects of life here, including the cost and scarcity of housing and many other topics.

Read the full draft report here and send in your feedback, or don't complain about Boone's problems ever again!

Happy Giving Tuesday! If you’re motivated by our mission to connect Boone with better walking and biking infrastructure, we welcome your support.

We’ve created:

1. The first NCDOT built multimodal path, the East Boone Connector, coming in 2025 on Bamboo Rd.

2. Mountain biking trails at Hardin Park elementary to support their kids’ mountain biking curriculum.

3. The much safer HAWK crosswalk and sidewalks leading to Hardin Park.

4. The proposed Cross Boone Connector, to extend the current Boone Greenway system to ASU campus and downtown Boone, connecting multiple path/trail systems like the future Middle Fork Greenway, the future Northern Peaks Trail, and others, as well as connecting ASU’s health campus to the main campus.

More coming in the future. We think Boone should have the best multi-modal infrastructure of any town in NC.

We offer business, personal, and student memberships as you can see in this link. Thanks in advance if you choose to support us!

Our mission is to create safe, inclusive, multi-modal transportation opportunities.

We had a report yesterday the HAWK pedestrian crossing light at 194/Hardin Park was not working. We have calls and emails in to the NCDOT. Does anyone know if it is working today?

We are sad to read of a hit and run resulting in the death of a pedestrian on Saturday, Sept. 28. This was at the intersection of Blairmont Dr. and Deerfield Rd. Please contact Boone PD if you know anything about this.

Side note: we’ve asked NCDOT for a separated, protected multimodal path in this area but they say it floods too frequently.

Release Date:
September 30,2024

On Saturday, September 28th, 2024, at 7:23 pm, Boone Police and Boone Fire personnel responded to Deerfield Road and the intersection of Blairmont Drive for a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian. Forty-eight-year-old Terry Turbyfill was located with life threatening injuries. Mr. Turbyfill was transported to the Watauga Medical Center where, after lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Detective Delaney at 828-268-6929 or [email protected].
