A heartfelt thank you to High Country Poet Laureate Hilda Downer for joining us today at the Friends of the Library’s annual Fall into Books event. Hilda shared her reflections and experiences during and after Hurricane Helene, along with the journey of bringing "Had I a Dove", an anthology of poetry about Helene that she edited, to life.

Our attendees were deeply moved by her presentation, especially the beautiful and touching poem she wrote and read to us from the anthology. Thank you, Hilda, for sharing your words, your heart, and your story with us.

A big thank you to Ms. Sarah Miller and the talented Watauga County Student Theatre group for sharing their powerful experience of writing, producing, and performing their award-winning original play, "Surge". Their story of living through Helene and its aftermath captured the emotions, community, and resilience of our region in such a moving way.

Those attending today’s Friends of the Library "Fall into Books" annual event were truly in awe of their journey and grateful for the opportunity to hear their story. What an inspiring reminder of the strength and creativity of our young people.
