Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re so grateful for an incredible community that came together last Saturday to assemble and deliver 1,700 Thanksgiving meals!

Here’s what we’re celebrating:
✅ Over 900 volunteers served with the Community Big Give in some capacity.
✅ 1,485 meals delivered by 162 volunteer drivers.
✅ 215 additional meals provided to local food banks for pickup or future use.
✅ 8,500+ people enjoying a Thanksgiving meal thanks to this collective effort!

A huge THANK YOU to every volunteer, sponsoring organization, and generous donor who made the Community Big Give 2025 possible. We also want to recognize the incredible work our local food banks do every day to fight food insecurity.

Together, we made a difference—and that’s something to be truly thankful for!

It's the week of the Community Big Give. There are many videos being made to train volunteers, routes being planned, last-minute meal confirmation texts and emails, volunteer messages...all generated by this man, . We are fortunate to have his logistics expertise in place, which helps put together the teams and plans to make this event as smooth as possible. Thousands of people will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal due to heroes like this and all of you who will be joining us on Saturday! Full of gratitude for you all and excited for another great day of serving our community together.

There are so many ways to give back in our community. Did you miss the chance to join the volunteer teams at the Community Big Give? No worries...jump in and be a part of the next way you can create a memory serving the community through the Community Toybox!

This year we have partnered with the Sumner Bonney Lake School District, the Gordon Family YMCA and East Pierce Fire and Rescue for the Sumner-Bonney Lake Community Toy Box. Together we will be taking donations to help spread holiday cheer to deserving families in our communities. Huge shout out to the City of Bonney Lake and Mayor Carter, who has initiated a food drive for the next two months. November's emphasis is support for the Community Big Give!! Another great partnership to create food security in our community.

The 12th annual Mayor’s Food Drive is underway. Join us in helping local families this holiday season. In November, help raise $54,000 to serve over 1,500 Thanksgiving meals to families in the Sumner-Bonney Lake, White River, and Dieringer school districts by making an online donation through Community Big Give. Then, in early December, we will begin collecting nonperishable food items for distribution by GoodRoots Northwest.

Your generosity makes a real difference-reminding us that giving is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen our community. Together, we can make this season brighter for our neighbors.

This picture is a perfect visual for how things are going here at the Community Big Give. We are experiencing a greater demand than ever before for meals this year and are working to facilitate the possibility of adding an additional 250 meals beyond our predicted goal of 1,550, which are nearly all claimed 10 days before the usual cut off. We have reached out to local grocers and are hard at work to meet the increased need this Thanksgiving. Thank you to all who signed up to serve; you will be desperately needed, and we appreciate the continued financial support from our community.

This decision will raise our expenses by $8,750. Every dollar given goes to food and it is the record giving from the community that gives us the faith to stretch for these additional meals. So far this year, you have already given over $8,000. That is thousands beyond what community members have ever donated in prior years. Way to go!

Grateful for the post be GoodRoots Northwest today! The power of coming together.

Our last post hit 40,000 views. What would happen if this post did too? How much good could happen in our collective community if every business, school, church, and group focused on one BIG thing? Let’s see….

Over the last five years, our organization has been very intentional about not creating panic in an already fearful time. We have never hosted an event, never ran a multi million dollar capital campaign, never asked for community donations, and never amplified an emergency for organizational gain in the name of advocacy.

We have always believed that our work in designing systems that deliver a 10x return on tax dollars is the way. To have high impact/low capital programming like vending machines has been our contribution to the greater good and the local food system.

But here’s the thing.

People are watching the news and seeing all the things that are hitting our communities at once…and we are receiving countless messages asking how you can help.

So we have something for you. And the impact is huge and helps more than just GoodRoots meet the need this holiday season. Donating to the Community Big Give will help every organization in our area. This incredible 15 year event serves families in the Sumner Bonney Lake School District, White River School District, and Dieringer School District….all at once. Every school and nonprofit in our area refers families to this event so that we don’t duplicate efforts and ensure everyone has a Thanksgiving meal. We all work together…..and the community wins.

One of the most difficult aspects of the Community Big Give is funding. It takes so many donors & sponsors to raise over $50,000 for the food we purchase. If you know of a business that is looking for a way to engage the community this Holiday season or know of a corporate grant we should pursue, reply to this post and tag the business. Hard to imagine we are just a little over a month away from signing up volunteers for this year's Community Big Give. We have meetings next week to ensure we have a grasp on where we can rustle up over $60,000 within the community through donors and sponsorships. It's almost go time!!
